digicam viewfinders

Which 2010 model digicams have viewfinders? Any?

My Canon SD990IS does, but it may have been recently discontinued.  That's why I nabbed it because the viewfinders are rapidly disappearing and I cannot STAND relying on LCD screens.  You might still find this camera around, tho.  It was a Xmas present.

Ha!  I notice it's up to over $600 on Amazon.  It was NOWHERE near that at Christmas, I can assure you.  People must want that viewfinder bad.

None on Craigslist or Ebay.

Means they're not being sold by anyone who's got 'em.

Sib,

Did you look at or compare it to the SD780is. Reviews seem to indicate the 990 takes better pictures but the 780 does better videos. Looks like they're the last two small cameras with viewfinders of any type.

I was looking for more zoom (3.7 optical) and the focal length to match (133mm instead of 100mm).  I don't have a HiDef TV, so, no point to me in HiDef video and I don't do anywhere near the videos since my daughter stopped racing...okay so she does beer league, but mom doesn't come anymore.....

I was getting frustrated with my inability to zoom in on a pileated woodpecker more so than problems with ski pictures.

Links, for others, to specs of these two cameras:

780

990

There are still viewfinders in the Canon line, but only on the bulkier cameras and I just don't want that bulk with me when I am skiing.  Plus, at my age, I have issues in any light, looking at that screen without my reading glasses.  I can see through the viewfinder, but need reading glasses to look at the screen.  Fishing them out of my jacket in the middle of a ski trail?  Forget it!  We need to start a petition drive....

I'm with you on the vision issue. I can learn the limitations of the viewfinder but my arms will never be long enough to use the little screens successfully. I'm going to get one of these while they're still available. I have a small Lumix with a nice tele on it that the spouse has taken over. I may go with the 780 just to save then money and size so I'll always have it with me.

I used to be a gadget freak when I was in my "photographer phase".  Along with two courses in photography and two shelves of books read cover to cover, I had all sorts of lenses and tripods and flashes and filters, until one day, I had an epiphany.. The best camera to have is the ONE YOU HAVE WITH YOU when you SEE THAT PERFECT PICTURE.  If you can't get AT it quickly, it takes TOO LONG to set up, it's HOME, whatever, the moment is lost. If you're a pro and you have three days to sit out in the sun, the rain, whatever, waiting, waiting, waiting that's one thing.  But, most of us don't have that time.  And most of us want to have a life and still get great pictures while we're at it.
