2011 Closing Dates

Heat index of 105 here again today - got to think about something cooler.

I see that Easter is late - April 24 - next year. Many resorts usually close about the second weekend of April regardless of the snow conditions. Anybody announced their schedules for 2010-2011 yet? Do you think the major resorts will close before this natural holiday?

Snow showers forecast down to 5000' tonight here. Think I'll get some turns in early AM tomorrow.

 

Although nothing's announced, but I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that Baker will close the last Sunday in April, and Timberline will close Labor Day.

Big Sky will be open for Thanksgiving and closing April 24th.

 

Moonlight Basin will be open the second weekend in December and closing the second weekend in April.

With the end of the 2011 season looming over our heads, I decided to look up closing dates for the Tahoe region.  If anyone needs a late spring fix(or perhaps early summer), it looks like there is some incentive to use the amazing snow base we've accumulated out here.

 

Tahoe Region:
Northstar - April 24th
Squaw Valley - May 30th
Alpine Meadows - May 15th 
SugarBowl - May 1st
Mt Rose - May 6th
Heavenly - April 24th
Kirkwood - April 17th

Here is a link to the projected closing dates for all of the greater Tahoe area, including the small areas and nordic areas.

Still not seeing anything official for Mammoth, but I have an idea they'll be open for a while

FYI, Kirkwod staying open until May 1st, with some limitations on what chairs will turn. Here's a link:

Mammoth will be open until July 4th, but Eagle and Canyon lodges will be closing after April 24th.  Only Main Lodge will be open until July 4th.

Crystal Mt. WA website says; "June 12th or later".  518" so far this year which is not Bakeresk or Tahoe, but respectable. 

The late closing date must be related to the new gondola but anyexcuse is a good enough reason for some things.  beercheer.gif

March has been a great month for Crystal.  Hitting it tomorrow hopefully after the promised snow tonight.  icon14.gif

whistler april 25th, blackcomb now may 30th (just extended 1 wk's closing)...

 

then there is tone blkcomb glacier that opens mid june to mid july too
(mostly for camps)...and given this yr's snow dump should be ok to try this summer skiing out for a day,

if nothing than to pose while skiing in shorts, a t-shirt, and a baseball cap while having my pic taken to send a pic to all my envious friends back East  biggrin.gif

Many CO areas have already closed despite a deep snow pack.  Aspen Highlands, Breck, Copper, Vail & Winter Park close the 24th, Loveland May 8th and A-Basin early June.

If you are thinking about heading to Tahoe, Double check with the resort.

 

Sugarbowl is closing after Sunday, April 24th and will re-open for the following weekend. They will be in operation Friday April 29-Sunday May 30th.

 

I believe Squaw is closing daily operations after Easter as well and then opening for Fri-Sun until the end of their season on Memorial day.
