Snowbird this weekend?

Thread Starter

Any one interested in skiing Snowbird next weekend June 5,6.  I will be stopping over on my way to Boston and I hate skiing alone. I have never skied past mid May, is the snow much different when it does not freeze overnight?  Mashed Potatoes all day long? Spotty corn? Will I be limited to groomers only?

Wish we could, latest we ever skied was June 28th @ Abasin on one of the better snow years past.Soft & fun, had to watch out for ponds. Bet you will have a good time! make sure you post a pic or two.

Ps, think Uncle Louie is doing Colorado late spring in 2011, make sure you mark that in your day planner. Sure to be a Good time!

Just sent you a PM.  Can probably go either day.  Give me a call.  The conditions were incredible last weekend and should be similar this weekend.  Probably will be softer earlier as it will be in the 80's in the valley this weekend.

I'm bummed.  Snowbird has closed Mineral Basin for the season :( .  Can't believe they've lost that much snow in a week.  May affect my decision to go this weekend??

Shoot, that's horrible news.  There was SO MUCH SNOW LAST WEEKEND!  It's hard to believe it's now closed.

I really feel bad for you guys......

You have some of the only lift serviced skiing left & your complaining.

Even with Mineral Basin closed I would guess Snowbird still has the most open terrain anywhere in North America.

If only I had your problems.

Yes I'm complaining.  Mineral still had plenty of snow last weekend.  Them closing it is kind of like a slap in the face to people who bought season passes based on prior years when mineral stayed open longer with less snow ( ie two years ago ).  Part of the reason why I buy a snowbird pass is because they have a track record of keeping things open as long as they possibly can, this year IMHO they're not keeping that track record and it may change what season pass I buy next year ( although I say that now because I'm kind of pissed at them, I'll probably be over it by fall and realize that it's still the best skiing in Utah ).

That said...

Anybody going to be up there tomorrow morning and want to be on my video?  If so PM me, I'll be up there at 8am but not staying too long.  Saturday and Sunday too.  I'm almost to 70 for the year and can still get there if they don't decide to close down unnecessarily.

mineral aint close its just skinned accessed meaning the snow you get to ski early will be sweet and not chopped.

They never closed at 2pm before either!   How's that been this year?

Now that Mineral is closed, early is going to be gnarly and the window for soft snow is going to be very narrow for lift served!

Two years ago I skied on 6/13 and Little Cloud was just starting to soften at 11am.

It kind of sucks IMHO, it's too early.  8 am is too early too, the snow is hard and crappy at 8 AM even on sunny days ( which there haven't been all that many of this spring ).  Even this late in the season there have been some days when the snow didn't get good until after 12, 2:00 closing doesn't leave much time.

Has Snowbird been charging full price for tickets?

JF

Edit:  Nevermind, I just saw that lifts are $49.  It also says that this may be the final weekend.  Web cam looks like it is snowing.

Jim, you can't post something like that and not post a link to the web cam.

Is that fog or snow?

Well, they are not reporting any new snow, but it has been storming since mid day yesterday.  Snow level was supposed to be around 9000'.

Looks more like fog to me.
