I've seen video of your skiing and watched you turn your legs to create counter. So you do use leg steering from what I can tell. With a little thought I bet you could turn that single leg you're standing on instead of turning your body above that leg. It's really not a hard move. Try doing it on a hard floor in socks to make it easier. Although on skis there is nowhere as much friction so the leg steering move is a lot easier. I would add that some of my students find it hard until they shift their focus a bit. That's where a good coach is valuable they can share the key to a movement needed to accomplish a maneuver. What it amount to is long axis rotation of the femur. A move you already use when you walk in a circle BTW. That's why it's not hard, you already know and use the move in your everyday life. Not that you walk in circles a lot, just that you turn as you walk. At least I assume you don't walk in circlers a lot
