Thanks again for putting this together.

Yes it does include the Nastar fee.  If I remember it correctly (and I'm not directly involved in this aspect of the deal).  The fee was $75 and the Nastar Fee was $25.  leaving us at $100.  With fewer participants enrolled at present (forms not returned) we needed to bump it a few bucks.  If we hit our 30 number as originally planned, we'll do our best to kick some $$$$$$$ back to you guys, OK ?

ANY OF you still planning on coming to the camp who have yet to get your form back..................let Rick know ASAP

hey MEFree30 ...

how about we pick on all of the people who signed up for this clinic (the number upon which the fee was based) and then backed out -- leaving us to take up their slack!!!

I know it's pretty late, but are there any people left on the waiting list?

Nope, but if someone reading this wanted to take this opportunity to slip into the camp, they'd be welcome to.

hola,

just a head's up ... I went online today to check car rental rates again (I had a reservation, but had not paid yet) and found that hotwire and priceline have KILLER deals.  I got a mid-size SUV for $20 per day (+ taxes/fees) on priceline by naming my own price.

happy savings!

Wow, well done, kiersten!  Hope others can latch onto that deal too.

I tried priceline for the first time this fall, trying to get a better deal than I already had reserved on a rental car in Florida.  They told me to go pound salt.  Guess it must depend on time, location and such.

A month ago I would have been told to pound salt, too, Rick.  But now it's the WEEK OF!

I bid $20 per day and got a mid-size SUV from Hertz.  I knew it was safe because Hotwire was showing mid-size SUVs at $26 per day.  I also make a reservation and then check rates at the last minute ... JIC.

=D  this leaves more money for the necessities like ... booze.

hey all,

I'd like to preface this post with a simple ... "No I have not been drinking."

Anyway ... will the race shack have speakers?  I was fantasizing about our Race Camp Soundtrack ...

=D

Will there be any way to track our results amongst ourselves, maybe have a daily champ?

NASTAR scoring will do all the tracking for us.  They will have complete race results up on the Internet around 4 pm each day.

I think some awards is a good idea.  Second day should be the money race, after everyone has honed their skills.  Fastest Males, fastest Females, and fastest overall racer seem the norm, but we should have others too.  Such as "most improved".  And some fun ones too, such as "best crash", "ugliest suit", "best run while hungover", etc.  Any other "fun"awards suggestions?

Hey Rick, first of all.  Great event you folks have put together here.  Looks like it is really coming together as a fun gathering.  I wish I could be there.

Second, did everybody also sign up for our EpicSki NASTAR team?  Please do so biggrin.gif

Yep, sure wish I could have worked things out to make it. You lucky folks should have a great time!

Hi Folks!

The snow has not stopped falling at Breckenridge. The season total is 294 inches as of this morning. The season average is 300 inches so expect pleasant soft conditions. The sun has barely been out over the last week so there has been no melting or hardening of the snow. The upper mountain has had a lot of wind so some places are scoured and others are filled in beautifully.

This is the week of the Snow Sculpture Competition down at Riverwalk Center. It is well worth the trip to see the frozen art. It is one of the few things I go downtown to see each year. Friday night the artists will be putting on the final details so that they will be fresh for judging on Saturday. You'll be able to see the sculptures at their finest on Friday night as well as get a chance to meet some of the artists and see how they work the snow. Lets just say their idea of carving is different than ours.

Finally, 7 people have paid online so far. We really need everyone to make their payment ASAP. The site will accept payment through Wednesday until midnight Mountain Time.

Simply navigate to the Payment site: https://www.skiracereg.com/secure/event.asp?id=557 (hosted by yours truly)

Enter your name, select the radio button for the Epic Ski Race Camp, then click Add to Cart

At the cart, just enter your credit card information as requested and click Pay then confirm your payment in the dialog box.

That's all there is to it. You will receive an email confirming that your payment succeeded. Please feel free to PM me if you have any questions about using the payment site.

I am looking forward to meeting and skiing with all of you,

Doug

This picture concerns me a bit:

There was some discussion regarding not really needing protective gear, but clearly the pacesetters and high level racers are running these courses almost like there are hinged gates.  What's the recommendation for those of us that can achieve these kinds of edge angles?

OK - let me re-phrase the question.  Will there be some additional protective gear provided if we feel we need it or should we hunt down some stuff for ourselves to bring along?

Padding is built into GS race suits.  We won't be providing clothing.

Hammering the gates will likely do more harm than good on this course.  While hitting gates can allow a tighter line, it can also slow a person down.  On a gentle pitch, regaining the speed lost from gate impact can be a slow process.  Also, trying to move in on the gates can cause people stand too tall, lose their edge angle, double turn, get rotationally twisted, and in general degrade their carves.  Lots of bad things can happen.

The better approach is actually do the opposite.  Move your feet further away from the gate, and allow yourselves more room to drop your body into the turn and achieve a higher edge angle.  You'll be able to run straighter, and turn sharper.

The fastest guys on the Breck course, I'm talking about the sub 5 handicap ones, do not hammer on the gates.

While it's true I'm not attending the race clinic and while it's true I did run the race course once two years ago and actually got a medal, imagine how much better I might have done had I worn something like this... Michelinman-753287.jpg

Not for this camp.  However, they are legal for the Chinese Downhill camp that takes place February 29-31.

Where do we register for the Chinese Downhill camp? I'm in.

I'm all paid up over at MastersRacer's site also. (Cool site and thanks for the snow report MR, planning on racing a few Masters events next season).

Edges bevelled and bases waxed, I have found myself shut out on lift ticket deals. 408 bucks for 4 days skiing...yikes. Ideas?

I'll be skiing Thursday and Friday, prone to skiing fast on groomers and hiking for the good stuff, would enjoy hooking up, pm contact info.

Ski ya there!!!

Passes with a friend's VR pass are $82.00. Just checked for a friend. That's $20.00 off. As songfta is staying with me, I'll be using my friend passes those days for him, if he needs them. I've been approached in the past to buy a friend ticket with my pass by total strangers. Any other discounts people know of?
