Of course you touch the actual edge when you grind the base & base edge flat. You want the metal edge flat to -0- degrees before you reapply the 1 degree base bevel.
And you can't make a 1.5 into a 1
And yes the angle absolutely changes as you wear the metal away! How can the edge get farther and farther off the snow without changing the bevel angle.
Ideally you want the base flat at -0-, even with the edge. EVERYTHING FLAT!!!!!! (THERE IS YOUR 6 TOG!)
@oldgoat....If you don't touch the edge and just grind the base you still have a 1.5 degree base edge bevel.
Remember a 1.5 degree bevel is achieved when you take your true-bar match it to the metal edge angle and have a 1.5mm gap 60mm across the the ski
Same thing with a 1 degree except the gap at 60MM is 1mm
