XC and carpal tunnel syndrome

I've had carpal tunnel syndrome for at least 10 years. Most of the time, it's just an inconvenience-I just have to switch position of my hands while driving, shake my hands while biking, etc. It was damned uncomfortable my 2nd and 3rd time on XC skis last weekend. I have Swix poles. I was thinking about bringing my full fingered biking gloves next year when I go on trips. Any better ideas?

Slightly shorter poles (palming the tops)?

Tennis-type grip tape?

Might not suit your situation, but I occasionally get flare-ups and I find that wearing those braces with the metal support plates in the palms in my downtime actually does carry over and helps to reduce the pain when I'm doing the things that usually exacerbates it. But I've got a mild case, so your mileage might vary.
