I want to swap some Caribbean sailboat cruising for some skiing

45 ft Bombay Explorer.jpgI am a retired Brit who lives full time on a 45 foot sailboat in the Caribbean. I am currently cruising between Trinidad and the USVI and plan to be in this area for the next couple of years at least.

I love to ski as well and would like to swap some sailboat time with someone who lives in or near a ski resort and could accomodate me and perhaps ski with me for  2-3 weeks in Jan or Feb. 2011. The sailboat time TBA and would be with me on board as skipper and my guest[s] could do as much or as little as they want.

Come snorkle in the Tobego Keys or explore the rain forests on Guadeloupe.

I would prefer somewhere like Taos or Telluride or Winter park but anywhere with a reasonable lift system and good access to the mountain would be fine.

Here is a link to my boat blog sailingonelephantschild.blogspot.com/2009/11/yippee-bought-boat-at-last.html

I am a non smoker and used to be a teacher at a UK college.

Now there is an offer you don't see everyday.  Wish I lived by Taos.   To prevent misunderstandings, I would like to say that the origin of this post (Caribbean) is consistent with the offer.

If you would consider Mt. Baker/Stevens Pass/Whistler, we might make a deal.  I'm a sailor too.

Thanks moderator for the endorsement.

This is a genuine offer. I missed out on skiing this year as I was busy buying and comissioning the boat after two years touring the US and Canada in a RV. This is how I finished up skiing at Taos as it was close to Phoenix where we wintered. What a find, fantastic piste skiing and no lines when I was there. I only ski on piste nowadays as my knees are shot.

I got this big boat in the Caribbean and I thought I could barter time aboard Elephants Child for time in the Mountains on the white stuff.

Posaune, Whistler is possible. It is one of the pkaces I always wanted to ski but as I was restricted to Xmas and Easter the weather uncertainty was high. Jan Feb should be fine I  would need to do some research on flight costs.

Be prepared for the not-so-bright crowd to dis that you don't live in some "core" area (like VT ).

I live in So Fl. now, and love the sunshine one-week, snow the next lifestyle, which is apparently lost on the (much) smaller minds that inhabit the site.

I plan my trips (many) months ahead of time - if you'd like some guidance around CO, UT or BC areas let me know -if you'll be around FL in the summer, I like to buy the beer for the weekend sails.

Well I am still looking for a swap and have firmed up my time slot as mid to late Feb or early March in 2011.

I will be in Antiqua then with the boat.

If nobody comes up with a swap that I can live with I am happy to consider a ski house somewhere between Denver and Steamboat for 2 to 3 weeks. My only absolute provision is that it must be non smoking and not too high as I have had altitdue problems in the past.

I've got a place in Frisco, CO which is within 5-10 minutes of Copper Mountain, Breckenridge, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin and within 25-30 minutes of  Vail and Beaver Creek.   It is at 9400 ft though so if you have altitude issues maybe not what you are looking for.  If you are interested.....PM me and we can discuss further.

Have you thought about Jackson Hole?

I'm kind of intrigued with this idea.

I have skied Jackson some years ago and had a ball there. What I am looking for is somewhere I can stay to ski Winter Park, Arapahoe, Keystone, Copper Mountain and Steamboat.
