8 YO boy hits lift pole and lives .....

Thread Starter
Last tuesday my son was distracted and hit a padded lift pole almost head on, he was wearing a helmet and was "borrowing" my over the glasses goggles.  When he was found by my wife he was not breathing and his left eye was swollen shut. After a trip to a local hospital he was transferred to a regional trauma center where MRI and Catscans indicated he had suffered a cuncussion as well as back trauma reulting in blood pooling around his spine. His helmet was a quality Italian model. When the pediatric trauma specialist removed the liner we could see the stress marks clearly on the back as discolored white lines.

We were told that there was NO doubt the helmet saved his life.

Please have your kids wear helmets ........

Wow--a silver lining, I guess, to a still traumatic event. Good advice to parents!

Best wishes to you and your son, Ashwabayskier. May he get well soon and recover fully. I hope this accident won't take away from his love of the sport.

My thoughts are with you.

Best regards,
Bob

Just glad he is going to be OK.
I hate it when kids suffer.

I am sure the doctors have advised you that its very important that he not have a second head injury in the next 6 to 12 months. Even a slight second head injury in the next 6 months could have serious consequences.   Be careful.
