Looking for something in a 70 flex or around there, in a 21.5 (or size 2?), that has the adult norm sole.

Thanks!

i don't think a 266 is a 21.5...he's in a 20.5 and its 249.  I think getting to an adult norm is a two size jump.  If that Lange is "marketed" as a 21.5, i think that is weak at best.  That's only more filler in the liner.  I checked into the Rossi JR2, and both the size 2 and 3 have the SAME shell size, 267 (or 266, can't remember).  Again, I don't think that is appropriate.

thanks Jim.  You are absolutely right.  I am sticking with child norm boots -- and the winner is the Tecnica Inferno 70 (I believe it is the same as this years Diablo 70, but maybe I'm wrong)

tecnica 70 -19.0/20.0 is same shell 249mm,tecnica 70- 21.0  259m both are junior din sole.  22.0 shell is first adult norm.
tecnica 90 2.5UK 260mm shell is adult norm
lange team comp 266mm sole is adult norm and virtually same interior shell length as tecnica 90.  ( a corvette is a huge car but still only seats 2)  tecnica has more interior room per given shell length than some other brands ( Lange / Rossi  for example )

the biggest issue you will encounter is that the bindings that fit junior soles are not suitable for J5 and older competition and the junior boot norm soles are incompatable with adult norm junior bindings.  i see this issue all the time with the better athletes, its not about DIN settings but how the binding hadles the energy level and the math says an 80lb J5 or J4 at race speeds puts more energy into the system than their 140lb mom and the tiny boot sole doesn't ehlp the leverage factor either!!

tecnica 70 is a great boot but make sure you can get a binding that is up to the task!

shell fit is everything!  go to your local race expert!

Thanks Sandy.  What choice do I really have?  He's a J4 with small feet.  The Tecnica 70 is, from what I can gather, the best child norm boot I can get (Lange/Rossi/Nordica don't seem to have what Tecnica has cornered for this specific market.  He's going to ski on Head SL and GS ski.  The only "race" binding I can get it is the Tyrolia SL 70 AC.  What other binding can I get for a child norm sole?  That's the problem...

What is the boot sole length on the 22.5 Lange comp team 70?  Is it the same 266m?  Just out of curiousity, what boot/size was your son in before moving into the 21.5 Lange comp team 70 as a J4?  Tha would be helpful.

Thanks!

in our neck of the woods, we raise the sole of the junior norm boots with a 3 mm lift, which brings the sole height up to adult height specs. then we choose bindings like the head/tyrolia/fischer/elan that in the 2-9  or 3-11 range have narrow enough toe wings to control the boot.

the other option. also very viable, is the look/rossi 3-10 axium models that work with a conversion kit that closes the gap at the toe and the heel, so that a junior norm boot fits well. maker has a conversion for their comp 3-10 eps, however there still is some subtle side to side movement, and the single action heel is a little limp for really agressive littleones that tend to straighten out the line.

advice for you:

1. get him in the boot that best fits his foot

2. chose the flex that is best suited, or adapt the flex of the boot that fits best

3. then figure out the binding/plate/conversion conundrum to keep him in his skis.

4. get out your check book, cause this is a puzzle that can only be solved by spending some money. there is no perfect solution and you will not find what you need on ebay or sellmetherights&*tformyson.com

pm me if you want to go the jr boot lift route. we do this stuff everyday. doubtful that anyone near you can or will do this work.
