I skied for the first time today with my new custom orthotic. I had it done at The pro ski and ride in Hunter NY. Keith Holmquist is the owner and bootfitter.
He made the orthotic and remolded my intuition powerwraps.
WOW!!! I wish I did this years ago. My skiing improved dramatically. I always had a problem releasing my edges on my left turns. I did it but it was a bit of work and it forced me to turn my body a bit. Today was just so fluid. I always felt one leg was longer.
When Keith made the orthotic and corrected my feet I was surprised how bad by left foot actually was - severe pronation. I actually hurt while he was aligning my knee and foot.
Keith is an honest guy. He doesn't try to sell you boots, he will work on what you have. And, if you need new boots and he doesn't carry what you need he tells you go get them somewhere else and bring them in for a fitting. I needed the Nautica speed machines he told me they were perfect for my feet but he did not carry nautica. I know him for a few years now but apparantly I was too stupid to get these earlier.
I suppose some people don't need them but I sure did. We all hear a lot of people talk about how a good boot fit is more important than skis (and I agree 1000%) but I would like to add that proper footbeds are a huge part of that fit.
