I don't think that when my grandkids are 8 and 10 and skiing with me, that I will let them run off by themselves like that. My youngest was 14 when he started snowboarding, and I was ok with letting him explore the mountain then, but I'm thinking that at 12-13 or younger, I'd insist that everybody stay together. His older sisters were actually content to hang out with their dad, which gave me some comfort. Herding all the family cats together at the end of the day was a little frustrating, even if there was a designated meeting time and place. If they were real little it would be kind of scary, I would think.
What experience to others have with letting the little ones ski on their own? How old before you let them do their own thing?
