Well the trip concluded. I am at the airport in Reno to come home. A summery of the trip....
Day 1. Squaw Valley. I skied with one of my hosts, Tom Burawski. Tom, an ex-pro freestyler and freerider from Schmidt, Hattrup, Andrews days. Tom took me around Squaw to hid some of the better terrain. We arrived at 9:00 which we quickly figured out was too early.
Day 2. Squaw Valley. Started the day at 11:00 which with daylight savings time turned out to be the right choice. The snow was getting to be just the right consistency of corn in the sun then as the day went on, the shade/north slopes were prime
Had Starthus freshen up the Kastles. A new edge and Dominator Zoom was were fantastic.
Day 3. Northstar. Skied there with Snow7. Eric showed me around "Flatstar". I see this place as Okemo of the west..a guilty pleasure mountain. Again, a 11:00 start. Uber nice groomers which worked for these conditions. We did venture into some trees late in the day and had some fun. I can see this place being.....
Day 4. Northstar. Hooked up with Bud Heisman, pretty much a duplicate of the previous day with Snow7. For as expensive as Northstar can be....the bar at the base sells 3:00 16oz Buds and a 8:00 Makers Mark that is well over poured.
Day 5. Alpine Meadows. Coming from Incline Village a wrong turn made me realize that A-Meadows in NOT below Homewood. U-turn. Skied with AlpineDad, StormDay and a few Maggots. I did my best to keep up with them on my Skinny" 88's and them on their fatboys. These guys know their way around this place.
Day 6. Alpine Meadows. Pretty much a repeat of above less AlpineDad
Day 7. Sugar Bowl. SierraJim and I hit it up in the AM. SB seemed to be an hour or so ahead of the rest of the mountains in condition timing.
