Where in NH or VT this Thursday (Day Trip from Cape Cod) 3-4-10

Thinking of a day trip from Cape Cod on Thursday. I am hearing very conflicting reports of actual conditions up north. I will go as far as Cannon ( I have a freebie ticket there) I figure Cannon is 3.5 hours. I  would prefer under 3 but definetely want to see good snow.

Not looking for the Double Blacks, just good cruising snow occasional Black no moguls any more. Sunapee, Pats Peak, Waterville, Loon, possibly southern VT.

Can anybody tell me where the rain didn't hit hard last week.I don't trust the resort websites.

Thanks in advance.

I heard from a friend that conditions were good at Wildcat, other than that, I think NH is a crapshoot. Bretton Woods sometimes gets snow when other places get rain. But both of those destinations are probably too far from you for a day trip. Your best bet might be Sunapee. They are further west than other NH areas, I think they got more snow than rain, about 2ft they claim. Plus all their natural snow gladed trails are open, so they couldn't have gotten too much rain. And they were in better shape than most NH areas to begin with. Plus they are much closer to you than almost any other area. You would be safe anywhere in southern Vt, I was up there this weekend, the conditions were fantastic.

Just looking at the snow reports and they ALL say decent conditions/ EPIC condions etc.... But I know oftwo people I met over the weekend ( Boat Show) who live minutes away from two different NH resorts that told me not to believe everything I read. Hoping some folks have been there over the past couple days.

For instance, Cannon says snow on thier website, but weather sites say a mix.

Aaaaaaargh!

Like I said I'm there at Cannon every weekend. Yesterday's conditions packed powder sweet turns all day. Now they picked another 10+ inches and it should be cold the rest of the week.

Thanks. Should have read your post more carefully. Wachusett might even be a possibility if the conditions are ok. Thats a quick 2 hr deal. Anyone?

I'm not completely sure, but here is my interpretation of what happened.
Further west got more snow, followed by rain.  But it did not refreeze (at least Southernly), and there was some more snow.
I was at Okemo yesterday and the coverage was excellent and the snow surface was very nice.  Oddly, there was bare ground in the fields less than 1/2 hour away.

Further East, I think they got much less snow but no rain.

Again, that's my detective work only, not first hand observation.

We were in Waterville Valley all last week except for Wednesday, and the mountain saw no rain as far as I could tell. There was some sleet in town, but the mountain got all snow...it was heavy stuff on Thursday, but definitely snow. There was a freakin wall of snow 12 feet high at the top of Gema/Ciao, it was totally insane.
There was actually some nice poofy stuff on Saturday, got chewed up fast but it was fun while it lasted. Maybe 4-6" at 8am.
I'd be wary of Crotched, Pats, and maybe even Sunapee and Gunstock, but Loon, WV, Bretton Woods, etc. should all be nice for the foreseeable future.
