Smashed Knee - Should I be concerned?

Hi,

I had a high-speed crash last night and smashed my right knee on the snow. It was the worst crash I've ever had. I literally had to gather my loose skis and find a place to sit down instead of popping the skis back and continue.

I have a huge bruise and it's painful when I try to bend my knee. I can still walk but somewhat limping to avoid bending my knee. Did I break something?

After this incident, I'm considering adding knee protection next time I go ski. What kind of knee pad is recommended?
