Park City (4-1-10 - 4-5-10)?

Never been to Park City before but from watching the snow reports the last couple years it seems like they have  gotten blasted with snow in the spring? Just wondering if this would be a good time to go or if I should go somewhere else.

I have been on three trips this year to the rocky's and just wanted to get one more in before it all ends. Any suggestions would be great!!!!!!!

Thanks

I would go somewhere else.  PC is low and doesn't have that great of an exposure.  LCC will have much better conditions, but zero nightlife.

However, it can be good. So long as you have a car and don't mind driving 40 minutes to Cottonwood canyons, you could just take strategy that if it gets cold and stormy, ski PC, if not drive to Cottonwoods. Or you could go to Whistler or Summitt county Colo that can have good conditions that time of year.

I echo this.  You could easily go to Little/Big Cottonwood Canyon if the PC resorts are too slushy.  Or you could simply go to Mammoth!!!

I have always wanted to go to Mammoth!!! The snow will be good there that time of year! I know its a crap shoot on predicting weather but I need one more good trip this year. I'm flexable on where to go and didn't want to be sitting at home reading email reports in late march first of april like last year when it is dumping out west!

Sure, it might be good.  But who wants to pay the big bucks to stay in a resort that you might have to leave to get good skiing?

Spider:  What is your gateway, what type of skier?   That time of year, last minute is pretty easy?

Spring skiing can be a crapshoot wherever you go.  One resort can have slush while another down the road can have nice spring corn. You just want good coverage and one late March or early April storm is usually all that is necessary.   If you don't have to book the airline tickets until the last minute, wait.  You will find accommodations everywhere since "Spring Break" will be over.

For the past couple of years I've skied the Park City resorts in really warm (50F-60F) and sunny weather, and it was really fun.   Last year there were a few days of great powder towards the end of the season.   You just want to avoid slush at any resort, and I'm not sure how you can plan that.  What you can plan is activities around your skiing.

Last year the 3rd-4th weeks of March, it dumped in UT and CO.  I had friends in CO the week after I was in PK City, and we just got hammered.

This year, it has been real crap.  Like the others say, it is no more than an hour drive to CottonWood/Alta/Snowbird/Brighton, or up to Powder Mountain etc...where conditions might be better if PK City sucks.

It really is a crap shoot. Mother Nature is a bitch.
