To add to Jimmy's post about gathering at Timberline, WV ski area, you can get $38 lodge rooms that weekend at nearby Canaan Valley Lodge along with other deals:

PS:  this is one of those deals I almost hate to share (but will for Bears) in case they sell out before I get my act together.

Don't miss out on getting lei-ed. Wear your Hawaiian shirt and shorts and ski in the sun. The Crazie family will be there.

LS is going north to do her CSIA thing... but maybe just maybe I can get up solo!!!

Who is thinking about this event on Mar 20 and 21?  Jimmy ain't fooling, this is the best spring ski festival in the mid-Atlantic.  Due to another commitment I might arrive late on Sat (in time for the torchlight parade extravaganza) and ski only on Sunday.  Will be watching weather forecast and for what damage this weekend's rain will do to trail count.
Add'l info:  weekend lifts at Timberline for adults are $35 one day, $58 two days, for college with ID $18 any day.  Canaan Valley ski area is offering lifts either day for $20 at window or $17.99 on liftopia.

Maybe kindda not sure yet. Maybe I have a commitment problem?

We are booked at Canaan for Saturday night. We will either drive in early Saturday if the weather is nice or later if weather is sloppy. I'm thinking that Sunday will be a downhill day and Saturday at White Grass. We will be there regardless of weather. We have a 4 bedroom cottage and 3 empty beds as I write. PM if you are interested in claiming a bed, cheap. Floor space is even cheaper.

I was hoping to go this year, but the weather might be a little on the warm side for my tastes.

 That's a pretty weak excuse.

It wasn't cold enough, the sun was too bright, the snow was too soft, the women were too scantily clad. I got sunburned.

You forgot "there was too much beer".  I am expecting all of the above no matter where I ski next week, but I will factor in temperature pretty heavily.  We have a lot of options this year.

BUMP.

Didn't know if there was a 2011 version of this thread...

Timberline, WV Snowy Luau is this weekend, Mar 18-20, 2011

Looks like there will be skiing and if the weather is reasonably dry and spring-like it will be a lot of fun.  I hope to ski there on Sunday, believe a number of others here will be there all weekend.  Good times.

Any idea if Weiss Knob has cover?

Sounds like there's still snow up high. I'll be there Sat & Sun.

Chip offered to ride Canaan's lift to ski Weiss the weekend before last but I couldn't get the family motivated Sunday morning during the rain. White Grass has 22"@ 4000ft. and 25"@4300. Weiss should be about the same or better. Are you going to make it down on Sunday? Here's a link to some video chaga posted a few days ago:

For any non-DCSki Bears, meet-up times are 10 AM and 1:30 PM (Sat, Sun) at the bottom of the hill at the Ski School meeting area (uphill side of the fence, close to the Silver Queen lift.) (Sometimes we get lazy about the 1:30 meet-up.)

As of last weekend, there was still plenty of snow in Cherry Bowl glades to keep beers cold.

Schedule:

(Remember that Timberline runs on Island Time and about as efficiently as a third-world government. Same as we ski.)
