Ski similar the Volkl 724 Pro

Thread Starter
I have been skiin the Volkl 724 Pro in a 170 length and been loving it, however I gave them away to my son in law.  I thought I could find a replacement on ebay, but no luck in that length.  Anyone have any suggestions on another ski that would be very similar in "on the snow characteristics".  A ski the same vintage as the 724 or one model generation newer is OK.  I want to save some money by buying used.
Thanks

Yep, the AC ("All Conditions") series of skis replaced the 724 series in Volkl's line about 5 years ago in much the same way as the 724 replaced the Vertigo series.

The AC 30 or AC3 would be a good choice (the AC 30 was originally the AC3 - they added a zero at the end the second year it was in production - don't confuse this with a current model called the AC3 which is a beginner ski.)

You might also want to look at the AC4 / AC40 - a bit wider and a bit softer than the AC3/AC30.

Make sure to get a stiff ski.  The Pro version of the 724 was pretty stiff.

While the AC series was the evolutionary replacement for the 724 series, IMHO they ski nothing alike. I had some 724 Pros and at 77mm underfoot I think a Head Monster 78 is a ski that feels more like the 724 Pro than the AC3/30/4/40.

And I'm selling a Head Monster 78 in perfect condition in the Gear For Sale Forum if interested!

I skied the 724 Pro for quite a while and really liked it.  People on Epic raved about the Nordica Top Fuel and when it came time to replace the Volkls, I bought them.  I highly recommend the Top Fuel it is very similar but blows away the 724 - seriously.

I agree with Phil's comment above.  But get on a pair of Top Fuels.  I have owned mine for 4 year plus and pound em every time I go out.  I am looking for a new ski and at this point I am pretty sure it will be another pair of TF (and some others too).

I've had 724 Pros in the past.  They are very good skis indeed.  I've replaced then with AC4 (82mm?), then currently Watea 84.  To me the AC4s were stiffer, and Wateas are softer thant he 724s.  I ski out in the west, so I cannot say whether what's appropriate for you depending on where you primarily ski.  These are what I ski on 90% of the time.   Fat skis for true powder days.

I actually have a 7-24 and still ski it back east, fortunately I don't get back east very often.  When I left the 7-24 I bought the AC-4.  Great ski with a little more under foot for more difficult conditions.  If you can find the AC4 on Ebay, go for it.  If you liked the length of the 7-24, try to find the same length in the AC4.  If you're buying new, look at the AC30 as an alternate.

FYI, today, I'm on a Manta.

I have a pair of Volkl 724 Pro in good condition that I'm willing to sell. Very nice bases and used gently.

If interested let us know.
