I won't be able to play hooky Monday.   I will scout out the mountain tomorrow and give an update on what's skiing well.

nolo -- I tried calling you earlier, but the number didn't seem to work.  We are using Dick H as a "go between"

I skied Bridger today & had a great time but only because it warmed up.  Much of the mountain has gotten overheated recently and isn't skiing very good until it softens.  Sadly, some of the stashes that normally avoid melting like the north facing chutes into Schlauchman's Gulch were tricky until they thawed.  Even  Mama Bear and part of Papa Bear were hard early in the morning.

The Fingers, Upper Avalanche Gulch, Exit Chute and Flippers were skiing good but they were heavily moguled.  Rocks are starting to show on Flippers except the last chute to the east.  The first part of the North Bowl had nice snow but it also had some bobsled ruts cut into which caught me by surprise....they tend to shoot you straight downhill and are hard to get out of.  The middle of the North Bowl has great moguls right now but they are full of slush piles you don't want to deal with if the slush freezes.

I'm not sure how the mountain will ski tomorrow.  If it thaws it should be fun but if not be careful.....I wouldn't be in a rush to get there in the morning.

Go Bridger Bowl! I was just there this weekend and had an excellent time. I may be back in a couple weeks! hopefully there's some more snow! Montana needs it definitely :/ but at least Bridger is better off with snow than Snow Bowl. Love the place, just not the bare patches of rock and grass, they kill my bases

We're back home, safe and sound after a great trip.  Not too much fresh snow (see Ski-3pio's TR for a description of the week that is more eloquent than anything that I can write).

Joan, Phil, and Dick:  thank you so much for your tour of Bridger Bowl -- it is truly a gem of a mountain!  I promise not to spread the word too much...  we hope to make it back there sometime.  Joan -- Daria and Steve especially asked me to thank you for the pointers you gave them -- they both said that it made skiing past me the rest of the week that much easier, especially on the steeper/3D terrain.  Phil -- thanks for the tour into Slushman's (sp?) -- truly an epic place to ski.

Little Bear/Ursula:  Thank you for your quickie lesson and for keeping us out on the mountain late enough for ski patrol to kick us off!  Rich and Pat had not had any instruction for years, and you gave them a valuable look at what they are missing.

Will download them when I have the chance (might add to Ski-3Pio's report) -- have to bring my Golden in for chemo today.  Other sad news is that our 14.5 year old Maltese died this morning.  Came home from Montana with report from our dog-sitter (a friend) that he wasn't acting his usual bubbly self the last few days.  He had lost weight and was breathing funky; took him to the hospital yesterday -- x-rays showed enlarged liver and pleural effusion. Blood tests supported pretty severe metabolic disturbance. Tapped a lot of fluid from his chest that looked like cancer on cytology.  He had an easy night sleeping on our bed, had a drink of water in the morning, lay down and stopped breathing.  Peaceful, at least; and he didn't force me to make the decision to put him to sleep.

Fair warning as this is the last known post of one anonymous Bear..

Frank Zappa

I might be movin' to Montana soon
Just to raise me up a crop of
Dental Floss

Raisin' it up
Waxen it down
In a little white box
That I can sell uptown

By myself I wouldn't
Have no boss,
But I'd be raisin' my lonely
Dental Floss

Raisin' my lonely
Dental Floss

Well I just might grow me some bees
But I'd leave the sweet stuff
To somebody else . . . but then, on the other hand I would

Keep the wax
'N melt it down
Pluck some Floss
'N swish it aroun'

I'd have me a crop
An' it'd be on top (that's why I'm movin' to Montana)

Movin' to Montana soon
Gonna be a Dental Floss tycoon (yes I am)
Movin' to Montana soon
Gonna be a mennil-toss flykune

I'm pluckin' the ol'
Dennil Floss
That's growin' on the prairie
Pluckin' the floss!
I plucked all day an' all nite an' all
Afternoon . . .

I'm ridin' a small tiny hoss
(His name is MIGHTY LITTLE)
He's a good hoss
Even though
He's a bit dinky to strap a big saddle or
Blanket on anyway
He's a bit dinky to strap a big saddle or
Blanket on anyway
Any way

I'm pluckin' the ol'
Dennil Floss
Even if you think it is a little silly, folks
I don't care if you think it's silly, folks
I don't care if you think it's silly, folks

I'm gonna find me a horse
Just about this big,
An' ride him all along the border line

With a
Pair of heavy-duty
Zircon encrusted tweezers in my hand
Every other wrangler would say
I was mighty grand

By myself I wouldn't
Have no boss,
But I'd be raisin' my lonely
Dental Floss

Raisin' my lonely
Dental Floss
Raisin' my lonely
Dental Floss

Well I might
Ride along the border
With my tweezers gleamin'
In the moon-lighty night

And then I'd
Get a cuppa cawfee
'N give my foot a push . . .
Just me 'n the pygmy pony
Over by the Dennil Floss Bush

'N then I might just
Jump back on
An' ride
Like a cowboy
Into the dawn to Montana

Movin' to Montana soon
Movin' to Montana soon

Anyone here driving out from Minnesota (Minneapolis area)? Don't know anyone going skiing... would really suck to make the drive by myself. Agh, I'm desperate to go but the person I was hoping to do the trip with dropped out. I've got the same week open though (March 27- April 4)!

Also, regardless of WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM, If anyone is open to crashing in the same hotel room or anything at all, please PM me. Or maybe you're renting a condo and have an extra bed... who knows. $ is not a problem, I'll pay my half of the room in advance on my CC. I just don't want to do the trip all by my lonesome. I've done a solo ski trip before, it sucks to pay a whole hotel room and it's lame being by yourself. PM me or reply to this if you have any interest.

Man, I need to join a ski club or something... any suggestions on where one finds people to go on trips with? Would suck to end the season this way. Who knows I might still do a solo trip if the itch becomes uncontrollable.
