Cool New Ski Gadgets

I found these two new gadgets on PopSci today, thought they might be neat to play around with if any one had the $$$ to drop on them, or epic decided to give one away for a contest. The second one is really cool, but I'm waiting to get excited about it until they actually put out a working prototype.

$500 for the first one.  My season pass cost $535.  A much better deal me thinks.

For the second one, we have to put up with cell phones & ipods on the chair,  now we can have some bozo looking at how fast they are going while they are skiing.  Great.

Both look awesome!
The first one would be pretty cool to work with for racers.  The Canadian alpine team developed something like that training for the Olympics.  They modified a GPS that's usually used to trace guided rockets and strapped it onto their skiers.  This looks way easier then doing that.

I think I read something about the Canadian bobsled team using the first one during training.

i just want speed in the goggles, forget all the other useless crap. If you think about it its alot like a hud in a car, its there but its not really a distraction, i dont see any problem with having your speed in your goggles.

Recon Instruments teamed up with Zeal on those goggles, so they should be a pretty sweet set-up.

That Shadow Box looks pretty nice for multi-sport use. Most devices like that are designed for one or two specific sports.

Here's a few pieces I wrote about ski gadgets recently. Seems like a lot of companies are coming out with all kinds of crazy tech for the slopes/outdoors.

Saw them in Denver, interesting..if they work as advertised. I would say they probably do, Zeal wouldn't get in bed with them if they didn't.
