Recommended Boot Fitters in North Lake Tahoe

Thread Starter
I'm looking to finally replace my 20 year old boots this weekend, and figure this time I'll splurge on custom orthotics and a fine-tuned fit. Any recommendations for boot fitters? A friend suggested the Start Haus in Truckee, but I'm wondering if all of their boot fitters are equally competent or if I should request a specific individual. Or if there are better fitters elsewhere.

Thanks

Vote #2 for Starthaus.  JimF (SJ) keeps my feet, my family's feet, and a few of my friends' feet very happy.

Jim Schaffner, the owner, is the guy to ask for at Start Haus.

If I was going to buy a boot in Tahoe. It would probably be at Starthaus. I have actually contemplated doing that next time I go visit my parents in Reno.

Bud, I was going to suggest Start Haus also because he was specific to North Lake Tahoe, Trukee, but I wondered where you are in relation to there?

One more vote for Starthaus.

My shop is a half hour farther East in Reno in the Grand Sierra Resort Hotel.  I also try to ski with my customers to do final check of alignment on hill if possible.   Our rates are a bit more reasonable as well!

Cosmo @ cosmo's bootworks in truckee did a good job with my fitting and correcting my alignment issues

I'm 25 days into boots that I purchased at Start Haus in June of 2009 and couldn't be happier - a perfect fit.

Went for custom foot beds and got lucky with zero boot mods needed.

My take is that it would be hard to do better.

As good of a bootfitter as you are, your referral says a lot.
Having met both of you I can say that I'm not surprised at the mutual respect.
You guys are tops in my book!

Starthaus is excellent. be sure to tell them you are NOT a racer, (if you aren't)

Grantite Chief is also excellent, the very highest quality also, with at least 4 guys that are totally on it. custom footbeds also.

Surefeet has done boots for some friends also. Very good for Lange.

All the suggestions here are great, but if your feet are not very complicated to fit I have had great experiences with Surefoot. They made a great custom insole, and I added some added boot mods afterwards which they did a good job on.

Plus they have locations all over if you need additional work done on a trip or back at home.
