Thinking about addind some rockered skis to the quiver.

Well after skiing a bit of powder and crud the other day I have decided it might be time to add a rockered ski to the quiver.  I'm 5' 10" 240 lbs and currently ski the 2010 Dynastar Sultan 85 in a 178 as an everday ski and the 2009 Volkl Gotama in a 183 for softer conditions.  I like the Gotama a lot and I think in the 183 it's a well rounded ski for me but I do feel like I should have gotten the 190 for softer, deeper snow.  I found a couple of great deals locally on some K2 skis.  I was looking at the Hellbent in a 189 and the ObSETHed also in a 189 both mounted with Marker Schizo bindings.  The Hellbents seem to have a pretty good reputation but I am wondering if there is something else I should be considering.  I want something for powder and soft snow that won't ski like total garbage on groomers when I am coming in for the day out west.

After a little more research I think the Line Mothership or Atomic Atlas might also be a good choice.

next season's stuff is looking very good..... SIJ skis the Altas and loves it.  BWPA is loyal to his Katana

At $550 for the Hellbent with the Schizo bindings I am leaning that way.  Seems like too good of a deal to pass up.

everyone ive talked to this year says they threw out all their old skis and use the obsethed only. supposed to be the big mountain ski of the year. also remember when sizing that the 189 obsethed is actually 196 long and the hellbents same thing.

Well I pulled the trigger on the 188 Hellbents.  After looking around on-line I decided I couldn't pass up the deal and if I don't like them I should be able to sell them and at least break even.  Now I am just going to pray the snow keeps coming locally so I can try them out.

I love that line from Mr. Mom, and pull it out whenever talking wiring with someone.  About 50% of the time it sails right over their head and they really think I'm an idiot, which is funny too.

Congrats on the purchase. Regarding the Atlas: it is only 94mm underfoot, and not a great deep snow ski.  It is probably the stiffest ski we carry, and stiff skis aren't very floaty.  The ski to look at in the Blizzard line is the Answer IQ, which is a great deep snow and crud ski at speed.

These were the specs I found for the Atomic Atlas.
[182cm] 140 / 115 / 122mm  22m
[192cm] 150 / 125 / 132mm  28m

The width and turn radius looked appealing but I can't seem to find the 192 for anywerhe near the price I found the Hellbents for.

I picked up my new Hellbents today.  Wow these things are HUGE in every dimension.  I am looking forward to taking them out tomorrow to try them out in some spring slush.
