I agree Oz, good instructors in all sports work with the student's own desires rather than only work from their own opinions/knowledge of what is "correct".

The exceptions though are if the instructor/coach feels that the students own safety is at risk, OR if they are interested in something like racing, where an absolute standard (the clock) is the judge, in which case an instructor/coach might well need to make a change in somebodys preferred stance. Because that that point its not about opinion or style, but about pure effeciency and mechanics.
