This isn't working. Anyone who searches new posts sees the latest post without opening the thread. Julia crushed and Lindsey blew it away. Now I don't have to watch. Spoiler in the title doesn't count it. If you talk about results of events that will be shown on prime time TV, please XXXX out the first line of your reply as I have done here. Thanks!

Yet your still here?? Your interpretation above of the race was wrong btw, means you have to watch it!

They're on bib 37. It goes to 45. I think the Slovenian Marusa Ferk must have crashed. Seems there's a hold.

That and the secret speed suits!!
Anja Paerson was a real threat before that huge launch at the end. Should would've probably beat Mancuso.

Yeah she crashed, NBC's live blog says they're sending in a helicopter to take her off the mountain, although she's standing and walking around

So why is nobody running now?  Is it related to the string of crashes DNFs?

Serious crash, so there's a long hold on the course while the helicopter comes in.  The network (CTV) has switched to live coverage of men's half pipe in the interim.

Now the Austrians will complain about our secret wax or base structure, because Julia isn't as big as Vonn or even a top 15 in the DH (http://www.fis-ski.com/uk/604/613.html?fiscode=537545&discipline=DH).  My theory is that she rises to the occasion and finally lets her skis go.
Naah... Julia is right where she should have been.  She's a technical skier, and this was an extremely technical downhill.  It was the speed merchants that were at a disadvantage today.  Case in point, fellow technical skier Anja Paerson was on her way to the silver if she hadn't launched off the final bump.

Looks like they are back on the course

Looks like they're running again.  Bib 39 on course.  Five more racers to go.

Oh..they're back on! # 41

They'll probably complain about this:
Quote:

"Maria, Anja, Nadja - a lot of girls can do well on this course," he said. [Jim Tracy. US Women Coach]

But he admitted Vonn's starting bib would be a helpful factor.

During Tuesday evening's draw she was given bib number 16, meaning she will start immediately after a four-minute television commercial break.

"That's an added bonus," said Tracy.

"Vonn gets 'perfect' bib number for gold assault"

Grrr......place I'm working today won't let me install Silverlight on their computer. Do they not understand the Olympics only happen once every 4 years????

Seems as if both Julia and Lindsey killed the top 25 secs of the course. I can't pull up the other split times now though. I think...
one racer left! Argentina

Yay KAZ!

Koszonom, without the accents needed, granted...

Mancuso skied a great, great run. Technically, she looked better even than Vonn. Paerson didn't have Vonn beat, but might've challenged Mancuso. Looks like that might have been a career ending crash.

Incredible race! Even watching it on a tiny, jerky computer feed.
Lots of drama in that one. One of the best races I've barely seen!!

Fantastic for Julia. She was interviewed this morning on NBC Today show.
I hope Paerson isn't badly hurt.

And then, in typical NBC fashion, they'll show a couple of runs and then cut away to some other pre-recorded event(s) for 20 minutes, then come back for a couple more runs before cutting away again.  I was watching women's boarder cross on NBC last night (just to see a different perspective from the Canadian live coverage earlier in the day) and finally got fed up waiting 45 minutes for them to get to the final run and switched channels.

ok now that I missed it live anybody have a link to the video so I don't have to watch nbc tonight?

Thanks in advance.

I'll bet we see a fair amount of actual coverage of this race primarily because there is no figure skating tonight but also because they have promoted Vonn so heavily and Mancuso is an interesting character (and past medalist).

I heard more people tuned into The Bachelor Monday than the Olympics on NBC...True or not?

True or not?

Apparently more than twice as many people watched the Olympics:

http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2010/02/tv-ratings-winter-olympics-dip-but-still-dominate-monday.html

Apparently hours of figure skating interspersed with short human interest stories parading as sports coverage makes for good ratings.

American Idol wins Tuesday:

American Idol’ beats Olympics in ratings

NEW YORKThe Olympics are doing well in the television ratings, but still can’t unseat “American Idol.”

Fox’s powerhouse competition was seen by 23.6 million viewers Tuesday night. The Nielsen Co. said that during the same two hours, the Olympics averaged 19.7 million viewers.

Once “Idol” was out of the picture, more people switched to the Olympics, enough so its average audience increased to 20.3 million for the night.

Wednesday may offer more competition, with snowboarder Shaun White set to appear for the first time in NBC’s prime time.

Anybody know the names of the trails they are using? Life is boring today and I've been perusing websites.
It's easy to figure out what was the run they used at Squaw...
