They were in a dusty warehouse that didn't get used and there was thick dust on the concrete dock.......all indoors so weather wasn't a problem...and in a yard that was fenced.
I told the Bonded Movers that I didn't want any dust on all my stuff so they took furniture pads and laid them out to set things on. I also explained that things are packed this way for a reason, explained about the grandfather clock needing to be laid a certain way (original box, and it's marked This Side Up), explained just about everything that I think they needed to know.
We walked to a diner for lunch, since it was 5 pm when they started and we had been fooking with this thing since noon and had only had bananas and junk food all day. After we ate, we went back.
They had over half of everything laid out just like it had come out of the truck. The guy acting as supervisor said that they would 'wrap my entertainment center with ...(I forget, some kind of plastic).....since it would be a better packing. It was 7 pm, and they weren't going to be done till around 11-midnight.
I was tired, thought that things were in good hands. My friend was bitching at me, too. "Are you going to sit here and micro-manage these guys? Let them do their job. You always have to have things just your way", etc etc. I was already pissed and this wasn't helping, but she had a point. Here's a professional moving company telling me they'll re-wrap things........and I'm going to stand around a cold warehouse and supervise?? At what point do you just say, Yep, they know more than I do about this stuff, they do it all the time? We made arrangements to pick up in the morning since we were both tired from the last 2 days of packing and loading and I didn't want to hear her bitch all night. I had several long days ahead of me.
A couple of days ago, I called the guy who arranged for the movers, and while he didn't babysit them either, he said the last time he looked at it he thought they were doing a good job (halfway done packing at around 9 pm). So there is hope that they really did do a good job on most of it. It's yet to be seen.
Oh, and now guess who is pissed because one of her boxes of souvenir stuff was not repacked at the back of the truck and I have to find it when we unload and ship it to her? Yeaaaaaaaaah.
