Info on Blue Knob

Thread Starter
I am headed out to Blue Knob, PA this weekend for the first time and I'm looking for some insider info on the place. Any thoughts on the best runs, how to avoid crowds (if there are any) ect. would be great. Also, I was looking at an older trail map and there seemed to be some glades that are not listed on the current version of the map. Bone Yard and Mineshaft, I think. They looked interesting. Does anyone know if these are still open and/or skiable?

You're in for a freakin' blast.  They got 28" on Saturday. Conditions are the best I've seen on recent memory.  I've skied there on and off since 1967 and was there on 2/8, photos in trip report section.  BK never gets too crowded anymore.  The big dump could bring them out or scare them away.  Who knows?  You can't go wrong with trail selection. Follow your nose under the main chair lifts.  The upper mtn is easier terain, but with several fun glades dropping off right side of Jack Rabbit trail, not too hard, good place for intro to glade skiing. Deer Run is normally a fine, steep groomer, it was bumped up on Monday.  Triple chair is good one to ride to do this terrain.
But the lower mtn is where the steepest stuff is, that is below mid station on the two long double chairs. You'll see some of it riding up those chairs.  Don't miss Extrovert, Stembogan, and the lift lines under the two long, old double chairs. There are glades all over the lower mtn between these trails, like D-trail, Ditch Glade. A couple of those glades you mentioned have not been maintained too well and may be roped off. But plenty of glades are open now and skiable. Look for where people are jumping into them.  Just about everything will be up for grabs this weekend!

They're getting another foot or so of snow today to add to the 28" from Saturday, should be awesome. One thing I thought I'd point out, you just have to look at a trail and ski it, if you have a trail picked out that you want to ski, look at a map before you go because there are very few trail signs there.

Way to rub it in.  Jackson might be getting another snow cycle in the next few days so it should be even better than it is now.  Take some video or pics for Philpug...  or better yet drag him and Lola with you.  Or if you want to be sure, bring Lovebug and Noofus.  I think they have influence with Uller.

Dunno which one of us PA bears has the "in" with Ullr, but it seems this winter we sure do.  71" recorded officially at the Philly Airport this year.  Broke the old record by 7" already and the winter isnt even half over.  Not to mention 49" falling on Jackson while the Philly Bear crew was there...

22" over the past 24 hours at my house.  On top of the 18" that fell Friday night...  My backyard is a mess.
