Has anyone or someone they have known ever tore their knee up on their first run...ever

Reading some of the injury threads made me want to post about my friends tragic ski trip last year. First Run of her life and she tears her ACL half way down. It was on a green too, nothing to bad, and her binding were set super low. She was a good sport about it and just hung out at the lodge and drank the rest of the trip. The people at Winter Park were super cool too and fully refunded her gear and lift ticket. Sucks too because she was just going because her bf was going and will probably not go back.

A better chance that it happens on their last run.

Was she in a lesson, or just dragged up the hill?

Christmas, 1967, when I was in high school, three friends and I went to Camelback in Pennsylvania.  One of the guys was a never-ever, and didn't want to rent gear, so he was outfitted with a conglomeration of our old gear. Ten feet into the first run of the day, he exploded, fracturing his femur quite badly. Explaining to his mom, who was rather excitable under the best of circumstances, was not fun.

1) One of my co-worker from a while back. Went to the hill for the first time of her life. Fell and hit her head. Not remembering why she was there. Never gone back.

2) Same company, different co-worker. Went to the hill also for the first time. Tore her knee up and never gone back.

Only if you said "one last run" before getting injured. The fact is most of us, not all, will call it a day after snapping a ligament or bone. Thus the old skier's joke that Phil makes, "it's always on the last run" maybe like sky diver saying "it's always the landing."

Sometimes the last run is a beautiful ending of a great day, in alpenglow, but not always.

My husband tore his ACL the first day of one season and dislocated his shoulder the first day of another season.  Both times he'd bought a season pass.  He stopped buying season passes AND also no longer has a first day of skiing.

I tweaked a knee late in the day on my very first day. I finished the day out and then was real gimpy at school for about 3 days. I didn't need crutches but I needed an Ace bandage to get enough support to hobble around. Needless to say, addiction set in before the injury.
