Forget About the Gold, Bring Home the Sterling!

The coolest skis you'll ever own is this pair of handmade Sterling Matterhorn Speed Skis, with a laser-etched solid sterling silver emblem and exotic wood veneer topsheets, elegantly presented in their own velvet-lined box. They are the Grand Prize in a simply fabulous EpicSki Contest that starts February 9 and runs through midnight February 18, 2010. Each contestant will add at least one sentence to a Fantasy Trip Report that begins: "I dreamed I won a pair of Sterling Matterhorn Speed Skis and had the most fantastic day of skiing in my life."

Here's how to enter:
  • Go to the contest thread. <I'll create the thread tonight and send the link.>
  • Add at least one sentence to the story to be entered in a random drawing to win.
  • Only one entry per person, though more than one sentence is permitted.
  • Registered members may contribute to the story, but only Supporters may win.
  • You can become a Supporter and qualify until midnight February 18.

Prize winner will receive the Matterhorn Speed Package valued at $3569.00, including bindings, racing plates, and poles. The Matterhorn Speed ski is a high performance specialist, designed to carve the groomers, rip through crud and aggressively grip hardpack. But the Matterhorn’s real beauty is its stability and speed. Built on a mid-fat GS race platform, it lends itself to high-speed big turns and edge to edge carving. Current owners most often state that the Matterhorn Speed has improved their skills and allows them to ski faster with more confidence. This is a result of a smaller sweet spot, torsional rigidity and our race plate and binding system.

Is Lindsey Vonn America's Best Woman Skier Ever?

The cover of the Sports Illustrated Olympic Preview special edition makes just that claim. Do EpicSki members agree or disagree? The question is, how does she compare to her competition--great American racers like Picabo Street and Tamera McKinney? Songfta said, "To my eyes, Vonn is the class of this field.  She has done many things that Street never did: won discipline titles outside of DH, won races other than DH at the World Cup level, and (most significantly) won World Cup Overall titles.  Vonn is a legitimate threat in every race she enters, regardless of discipline, which was never the case for Street (outside of DH) or McKinney (outside of tech events and combined events)." That pretty much settles the question! We'll all be ready to cheer her on at the Vancouver Olympics with the NBC broadcasting schedule thread.

Good Times at the 2010 EpicSki Gathering

The Trip Report thread on the Gathering had a lot of us wishing we'd been in the pictures too, enjoying the ideal conditions, great weather, and the fun times! The Gathermeister rounded up some outstanding local Bears to show off their home mountains and private stashes. Bill Kerig (SkiWrite) showed up to give the expert's insider tour of Snowbird and then hosted a private showing of his outstanding new movie based on his book, The Edge of Never. In the words of falcon_o, "For those of you who couldn’t share, drool over the many posted pics and make a commitment to join a future Epic gathering. You will not be disappointed."
