I always wanted to live in snow country, finally got my wish.

We've got around 28-30" north of Leesburg and it's still going strong at 11:45am. I've been plowing the driveway every 3 hours or so since 5 pm Friday. The curse of the 1500' driveway!

I've got some folks nearby who raise Huskies. They were out this morning with their dogsled. Pretty cool sight to see in Northern VA.

We totally expect lots of stories about powder skiing from out there, in powder country, USA, and face shot pictures, fat, rockered ski reviews, steep edge angle debates, and arguements about dudes snaking lines.

Bring it! OR ELSE! The whole US is watching. What will they do?

You're just jealous that when we hike for turns, it only takes about 5 minutes to reach the top.

It went a bit too far south here. We were supposed to get about 6 inches, we only got a little less than 3. Wilkes Barre which is right around a lot of the Pocono resorts didn't see as much as a snow flake. Southern PA is still getting hammered, but it missed a lot of the Pocono resorts.

That's a lot of snow.
Little 500' vertical Bryce Mountain ski area in nearby Blue Ridge Mountains of VA could be Powder Ground Zero in the USA today.

18-20" in Dupont Circle, still coming down.  Very dense snow - probably a 8:1 or 7:1 snow-to-water ratio.

People skiing on the roads, both alpine and XC.  Very little traffic.

Re: Ovie, he's playing - the booboo is long passed, and he just scored his 500th NHL point the other day.  Caps have won 13 straight - hot team in the NHL right now.

Also: looks like Wisp is the big snow winner as of this morning: 44" and still coming down.

If I had my PBR's at home< I would be out hiking for some turns.

While I am not there yet, I supposedly have 34 inches at my house according to my neighbor. I live about 5 miles NW of Tysons Corner, VA..

Ended up with 21.5" in Dupont Circle - lovely.  Last 8 or so inches were markedly lighter and drier than the rest due to colder temperatures.

And the Dupont Circle Snowball Fight was EPIC!  Over 1,500 people out in the Circle and the streets, having a blast and making great use of the snow.

We ended up with around 32".

I've been here since '87 and I don't recall getting more in a single snowfall. As a kid growing up near Frostburg, MD I'm sure I saw greater single snow totals, but not here in NOVA.

Left at 9:30am and the roads were mostly clear until Altavista

Every few miles closer it got noticeably deeper

There was a boneyard of 2 wheel drive vehicles piled up at the bottom of the access road..  Wintergreen is one of those upside down place with the lodge at the top of the mountain.  Too bad for them.  I made it up just fine.

I'm pretty sore that farther north did better.  I'd say it was closer to 15" actual fresh today, but it was snowing all day and still coming down on the mountain when I headed home.  It was mostly skied out, but there were a few stashes of cool whip and some cheese along the sides.

Cratered Snowboarder

These are 192s

BPA's obligatory face shot.  Sorry folks, it wasn't quite THAT sick.  But, I took it today anyway

Thumbs up

I know this isn't the TR thread, but gotta fuel the East Side Stoke here

Final tally here in Pittsburgh was about 24".  Here are some pictures of today's fun with the kids in the snow.  Tape measure pic is from about 10am and it snowed for another 4 hours or so.

I'm all dug out and headed for 7-Springs tomorrow morning!

^^^ That looks like 21" to me.  Wintergreen's website says they also got 21" (not including the snow earlier this week, 36" total this week).  I'm calling BS on 21" since yesterday at Wintergreen VA.  It was nice, but not quite 21" today

You got cheated.    33" in Shirlington.

Can't say I feel too bad for you missing the snow while stuck in Utah.  I was really hoping my plane would get stuck too!

Hope you get some fresh stuff out there too.

did another tour on the XC skis this morning. It's amazing how quickly the snow is disappearing. At 7am, it was crusty good and I could make time. By noon, it was wet mank and down to the grass, asphalt in a lot of places.

Here's hoping that Wednesday's storm brings another significant drop.

I skied Whitetail yesterday.  I was actually the first skier on the first chair (pretty cool).  The ski Patrol guys said it would be "20-25 minutes before the lifts open" but that didn't stop people from waiting (duh).  I had stayed on the hotel right there in Clear Spring Friday night and made it out with my trusty Pathfinder around 7:45AM to make it up to the mountain.

The conditions were great.  First tracks were to be had for about the first hour before it got really tracked out.  I was in Tahoe a few weeks ago and it reminded me of being there but just shorter runs and not nearly as steap terrain :).

Yes! That's what I want to hear. Thanks for reporting. Congrats on first chair. You are not a loser, crackermun!

Heads up!  For those of you that didn't venture out Saturday you are getting another chance.  It looks like another foot or so is coming later this week.

That Joe Bastardi forecast from last fall is looking scary good dead solid perfect.  We should start calling this guy "SNostrodamas"

If you have any pull on that weather man could you please keep it to the mountains and let me have my sunny warm South Carolina back?  I never mind the drive up the hill to the snow.
