Four people taking two quad chairlifts

First, It’s a nice day on the mountain. Time to enjoy; about 40 deep on the main quad going up. A few foursome’s ahead they split with three guys taking the chair and the fourth holding back and taking the next chair by himself. This happens several more times before I can get a chair up, the lifties don’t even blink. I had one guy wiggle through the lift line and join a foursome, then they split into a three/two for two chairs. It continues to happen every day I go to Mt Hood Meadows and that is the only resort I have ever seen this done. Am I just oblivious at other locations? When there is no line waiting I just shrug, remind myself that people are what they are but when there is a twenty minute wait then I get a bit hot. Is this really what I should expect?

No, this isn't what you should expect but I see a lot of it at Mt. Baker.  It's usually kids that do this stuff.  On the more advanced chairs you see little of it but on the ones that service the groomers it happens frequently.  The lifties generally don't do anything.

You should have seen it last night. 2 guys standing in the middle of the loading ramp on Hood Express waiting for their buddies. 1 guy skates past angrily. One of the guys blocking the line pushes the guy skating past. There was amost a brawl in the lift line.

PS I hope you didn't bother with the main bowl. I slayed it all last night when it was fresh.

Get in the singles lilne next time and join one of the other groups.

This is wrong and it pisses me off. If the maze isn't full or if there isn't fresh snow on the ground then I don't care. But 40 deep in the maze. BS and the lifties should have taken care of it.

If you really want to get pissed, probably the reason the dude hung back and snagged the chair single is that he wanted to smoke up (in some fashion).

The only time we have queue problems in SW Montana is on powder days.  We don't have many quads around here but if you take a double or triple chair and leave a seat open you get booed and often you get snow thrown at you.

Glad you had a good time rippin it up. I never get why some people "wait" at the load up point, beyond my understanding?! but it happens, and it happens at all the Meadows lifts. I have never seen that at Tahoe or Colorado or Montana, just here, beyond my understanding.

BTW We stopped at Bozeman (Bridger) last year and had a great day playing in the freshies. Did Big Sky a few years back with the Epic crowd abd had a great week. Good people good mountain.

Not as bad as the skiers or boarders who get in the singles line and simply hop on the next chair available, all by themselves.

Hey Ryel--haven't heard from you in a while. Other than the empty chair issue, I hope all is well with you!

I agree that it's low and selfish to intentionally leave empty seats when there's a lift line, but certainly that kind of rudeness isn't limited to the slopes these days. Still, if the lift operators don't take care of it, first I'd complain to them as a reminder. Then I'd pack a few good snowballs and get the crowd riled up....

Best regards,
Bob

It's all about ME! Standing around blocking the lift lines 3 and 4 deep ect. I just skate around them, sometimes it's almost like running Gaper Gates. Not your local riff-raff you know.

Here's a wrinkle. say there is a line, but more like 5 minutes. say you don't ever like to ride next to a snowbaorder on a fully loaded, that is tight, chair. several reasons, including having his board bump and bang you all the way up, and then getting your skis ridden over on the off ramp and twisted into a pretzel. I won't load if the boarder looks like he can't ride, singles line or not 3 on a 4 pack or not. I will give the guy behind me the option.

On the Pali chair the two of them sit back, shut the f### up, and enjoy the ride!
