Which would you take for free? ObSETHed Vs. Shogun

My friend is paying me with skis to help him build a deck in his backyard. I have the ability to take any K2 or Salomon ski, but have narrowed it down to the ObSETHed or the Shogun.

I am about a level 7 skier (if that ranking system truly means anything). I spend the majority of my time in the trees and pow, but enjoy a good groomer as well.

Any opinions?

Thanks for any advice.

I demo'd the Obsethed a few years back. Not sure what changes they have made to the ski other than the graphics. It was a decent ski. Kind of floppy in the tip. Floated in Pow really well. Almost impossible to get tip dive. Groomer performance was just okay. Edge hold was just so-so, and it was a soft pow day when I took them out.

Have not skied the Shogun but have heard decent things about it.

I've heard similar things about the Obsethed, but nothing but praises for the Shogun.

Personally, I would take the twin tip.

I'd take the ObSethed for free, but I'd pay for the Shogun.

PERFECT way to put it.

I tried the Shogun and  liked them a lot. You can ski them at any speed and they just perform, actually, the more you push them the more they perform. You can pretty much do anything with them. It was kind of interesting, because when I took off, at slow speed I thought that once I would have start charging that ski would not been as nearly as good as it turned out to be, maybe the bamboo core... Great in trees and quick and light for a 100mm. Very fun ski. Never tried the ObSethed, so no way to compare...

scia, it helps to put your gear experience in context if I know where you ski, either as added to your profile or included in your post. Conditions drive everything about ski performance.

I tried them at Crystal Mountain, NW, it was a demo pair in 182cm . It was snowing while I was skiing, not a lot of powder though, maybe 2-4". I had a chance to run them on piste and off-piste. Some tree skiing. Temperature was on the warm side, maybe 31-32 degrees. I am 6'-3", 195 lbs, aggressive skier. I can charge blacks. Don't do park. Don't do big cliffs jumps. I was suppose to try the Nordica Enforcer and those were not available, so I ended up taking the Shogun. I truly enjoyed it, I can see that to be a good ski for the NW.

Way more NW versatile than what you originally wanted (enforcer), so good find.

Shogun is an instant success this year in Tahoe, ending a dismal period for Salomon in one flash of genius design.

Thanks for the help. So is the Shogun not a twin tip? I've read different reviews, some say it is, other's say it's a partial twin tip. Anybody ever seen a side profile pic or have one? I've looked everywhere.

I know what you mean by "I'd pay for the Shogun", but can the Shogun really be worth 650.00 more than the ObSETHed? If so, why?

Once again thanks for all of the help. I know people get tired of these threads, and yes, the obvious answer is "try them out for yourself", but I still cannot find a demo pair of either in the size i'm after.

Sierra Jim is one of the most respected gear reviewers on here.  When it's that cut and dry, just take his advice and go for the sally.  They are both almost too ugly to own, might as well get the one that skis better.
