I just booked a ski trip package for end of March to Chamonix, staying at 3 * Maeva La Riviere Residence!

Can anyone tell me what its like around town and nice places to go to... for 7 days

Also I want to find out how to get from Geneva airport to my hotel, without paying ridiculous money ( i have two other friends with me)

where can i find out about training packages (im a first timer!), lift-pass, gear, etc.. is it best to book it all online before i get there?

cheers! all advice welcome

Skiing in Chamonix is geat and at the end of March the conditions should be favorable. The town itself is nice and there is a lot to do.

Not all the Chamonix ski areas are ideal for a first timer but there are also more gentle slopes to practice. I would consider a ski school and start with the ski areas of Les Houches and Domaine de Balme (there are generally easier slopes than in Grand Montets...)

Take also cable car to Aguille du Midi, views are stunning.

There are regular bus connections from the Geneva airport to Chamonix (check the information from the web pages of Geneva airport)

I recall that the price of a return bus ticket was around 50 euros. There are also several firms offering minibus transportation from the airport to Chamonix, just booked transportation for my trip in April at 75 euros.

I would really recommend getting a hire car if your budget allows it. Chamonix is a big valley with 4 different ski areas so it means getting a bus to and from the slopes. A lot of people are happy doing that but in my opinion a hire car makes it way easier. Chamonix is an easy 75 min drive from the airport to. When I was there last month we paid 250 euros for a 4x4 for 4 days.

In terms of skiing I would agree that either Les Houches or Le Tour (Domaine de Balme) are the best places for a first timer. As for places to eat and drink - Micro Brasserie de Chamonix is good for apres and Albert 1er is the place for dinner (be prepared to pay for it though!).
