$400 for a weekday nite at Jay Peak????

Never been to Jay in the Winter so i figured i steal a few days midweek off in February and try the New Hotel at Jay.  Minimum rate for the smallest room, on a Wednesday nite was $400.  No condos available at all.  I am not ignorant of the economics of skiing and resorts, and generally do not complain about prices, but this is seriously Deer Valley type pricing.

Granted it includes a lift ticket so its really closer to $325 a night, but still we are talking about the North East kingdom not Vail/Aspen.  Ive paid and over paid many a night in ski resorts/places that were not worth it -deer valley again-- but am I missing something here.

I was engaged up near jay, and for years there has been some movement to get more folks and families up there but is there no recession and has there been some kind of popularity explosion up near Montgomery Center that im clueless about?

You folks are right it is possible that this week is a school vacation week. Am I still totally off base?

If it's during President Day week, you're competing with New York City $$$$.  The schools are closed for the week and it's a very popular week to ski.  It might be a recession to the rest of us poor folks, but the bonuses for the financial community have been astounding (as has been reported in the press).

UPDATE

I didnt mean to cause a huge fuss but I guess 2/17-21 is considered presidents week. That could be the real issue. I got a nice PM from someone at JAY looking into it. That is comforting.  I will post again after speaking with him

Lorian, i live in nyc, you dont have to read the press here to see the financial industry's largess.  The black cars are still triple parked outside offices to allow these folks to avoid commoners on the subway, the drivers are still shuttling their kids to 25K per annum nursery school in large SUVS, the better restaurants (and even alot of the bad ones) are absolutely packed; good Apartments still cost the budget of small nations, and decent houses with excellent schools in the burbs still start at 1MM plus...Recession....never heard of it.

Here are two quotes i should copyright/protect

"We moved the recession "off shore" along with your job and benefits".

"We will continue to confuse the public into thinking there is no recession by flooding the consumer market with cheap goods from those offshore places"

I just stayed last Saturday night at their new Tramhouse Lodge fr 99pp including lift tickets.  They also just emailed me an offer for 88pp including lift tickets for a 3 day 3 night stay either midweek or weekend.

Yup, that $400 a night rate sounds big to me.  If you email me direct (swright@jaypeakresort.com), I'll straighten it out for you.

I know holiday weeks are always more expensive but I don't think any hotel anywhere at any time of the year is worth $400 a night.

I get offers in my e-mail for Jay lodging for a lot less fairly regularly. Sign up for the 242 newsletter to get the good deals. Is the Belfry in Montgomery Center, technically? That would make two, right?

Whiteroom, thanks for the edit!  My mistake.  Close to bar, restaurant and ski shop.  The important thing is that when talking about Jay, TREES is plural.
