Mantra Sizing Help 170 vs 177

Trying to decide between the 170 vs 177 mantra. I'm 5'10 155lbs and enjoy skiing everything. Unfortunately, I live on the east coast, but make it out west every year for a week and like to ski the trees and the bumps. Back east, I do the trees and bumps but way more groomed trails since that is mostly what we have where I live. I want to ski to be quick in the bumps and glades, but also want something that will float nice on the powder. Which would be better the 170 or 177.

The Mantra pretty much sucks in bumps and is less than ideal in powder but if those are your criteria, and you want a Mantra.............I'd suggest the 170.

Thanks. I know they are not ideal for glades and bumps. I did think they would be good in powerder though and am wondering if the tips will sink too much with the 170s and if it is worth the maneurvarability in the bumps to get the 170.

The additional length will not help you a great deal in powder b/c the issue with the Mantra is that it is very stiff (especially in the rear 2/3 of the length) Think of it this way, flex is what turns you in 3-D snow. A softer ski will flex more readily and thus be easier to turn so it will be better at everything on your list except for hardpack. A stiff ski doesn't turn well in deep snow unless you are heavy or ski very fast or apply a lot of muscle.

Given your requirements and your weight there are far better choices than a Mantra but if that's the ski that you want, get the 170. If you just want a Volkl, the Bridge is their best all mountain ski. If you are not particularly stuck on Volkl then there are other great choices as well.

You should go no higher than 170 at your size

I have a friend who is a 5'4" 115lbs woman who skis the 170cm Mantra as her all mountain ski. She happens to ski extremely well, so take that with a grain of salt, just sayin'...

The 170cm will be (might be) a very good choice for bumps and eastern glades, the 177cm will be better on groomers and out west, IMO. You sort of infer that you ski on-trail mostly in the east and the bumps/powder/glades are more of a western thing, if this is correct buy a 177. If you can ski well the 177cm is a much better choice, if you don't then the Mantra is not a very good choice at all.

in all honest the mantra isnt a good choice for the east coast....it doesnt make that much sense here.
