I was quite surprised to learn that I ski faster than my perceptions had me believe--assuming the speed gun is accurate. I always thought the opposite was true--that I overestimated my speed. I always felt I maxed out somewhere around 20 mph when just cruising and was at the upper end of my comfort zone before I started thinking of ways to reduce speed. I was surprised to learn that my top speed passing one marker at the base was 32mph and 27 mph at another spot midway down.
I started to think that the time I was told recently that I might want to slow down a bit is perhaps true. I honestly had no idea I was skiing that fast, based on my perception and have never had my speed tracked before. It came as a total shock.
I know for some here who say they ski at 60+, this may not be considered 'fast', but to me it is.
