Sipapu is small , funky and family oriented - a very 'un-resort' feel - the lodge is pretty much the only thing within 10 miles. If you can't find what you need at the lodge you have to drive to Penasco (another VERYsmall town) or more likely Taos (25 miles away)). My god-daughter & her kids are coming up for spring break & I am considering starting them off there ($54 for lift ticket, rental & 3 "get you started" sessions)
Intermediates should have some fun there for a day or two & for a beginner it should be great, but I don't consider it technically demanding. They have nothing I would call steep (I ski Taos), though some of the tree runs are tight & require some concentration. IMHO anyone capable of skiing blacks comfortably at a major Colorado resort will ski anything at Sipapu easily and will probably want to move on after a day or at most 2.
Try it, enjoy it & then see if you want to migrate to Taos or go to Angelfire or Red River if you want a more 'Blue cruiser' mountain.
