Alpine Meadows 1/30/2010 - crunchy with some nice patches

Skied Alpine Meadows on Saturday Jan 30th, 2010.   There was 3" new snow overnight with a little wind.   The snow was crunchy crud with pockets new snow and wind blown snow.  If you skied a good wind deposit, it skied well.

I think the vid show how variable it was:

We did find some protected smooth uncut snow later in the day.  But no cameras or camcorder were out for that.

The next day Estelle opened and we did it 1st thing for nice untracked lines in 3-5" of new snow over a hard surface.  Got the same snow on OB high T run the next run.

This is alpine medows, lake tahoe right ?

where is that run ? I can't picture it for the life of me. I'm thinking it's probably something off of scott's peak (or maybe roudhouse). I don't see the lift so I don't think it's sheerwood.

please tell me it's driving me nuts

That is correct.  It is not close to a lift.

Agreed with your assessment.

It was amazing how much better Sunday was than Saturday.  No new snow, but a nice cold night helped dry out the snow nicely.  Started the day on South Peril in beautiful cream cheese, then found delicious mid-morning untracked left of F Tree.

Yeah this footage is awesome. I love Alpine, it's by far my favorite mountain. I'll be out there First week on march this year, and I'll probably do 2 days at alpine 2 at squaw and maybe 1/2 at Mt. Rose or Doner on the way in from Reno.

I consider Alpine a "Crowd-less Squaw" it's simply perfect. a short hike takes you to freshers even a week after a storm.

My personal Rate of  Tahoe resorts (Been there 6 times, and I'll be there at least once a year every year of my life)

1) Alpine
2) Squaw
3) Sugar
4)Kirkwood
5)Heavenly

I'm bias though I love North Lake, so I'm sure some will put 4 and 5 above 1 and 2

I also love the smaller resorts... Mt. Rose, the trees at FlatStar and of course homewood.
