More New Snow in the Wasatch

For those of you in SLC this week, we got about 8 inches of snow over the past 24 hours, which is just what we needed. This is probably the driest and lightest snow so far this year. The skiing at Alta today was excellent with powder up to knee high in spots. Super skiing off Supreme and fun pockets elsewhere. Backside and the Castle were closed today, so some lucky folks will get a chance to play there later this week. Because of high temperatures last week, on Friday many of the runs were pretty crusty and the moguls downright hard. Of course once you got deeper into the trees, the snow was still soft and the skiing was good. Today there were spots where you got down through the powder and could feel the hard moguls underneath, but that only discourages the pretenders and saves the goods for the rest of us. It was a great day and though there isn't much snow in the forecast until Thursday, I think the skiing this week will be great.

We've had more new snow. Phenomonal day at Alta today. Backside opened for the first time in a couple weeks. Hardly anyone there. No liftlines, no B.S. the complete opposite of the roller derby feeding frenzy of last Monday. I took my fifth grader up. We had to pass on the backside 'cause it's a little steep for her from the top, and they didn't have the mid mountain traverse gate open(at first). Ballroom and Shoulder had been closed and we yo yoed freshies on Ballroom. She did the high T and we got Greely from the top, and that was a challenge but she aced it. Best turns- hit Cecret Saddle at the rope drop. Spectacular day, great skiing, powder everywhere, no crowds. The local powder junkies finally had a good week, they're all tired out, civilization returns...by the way, PCMR was great yesterday. Utah's got it's snow.

4str, that photo is causing me physical pain. I love my office. I love my office. I love my office. I love my office. I'm hoping if I say it enough times, maybe it will come true. No, it didn't work. I think I would rather have been where that photo was taken. Not that my office isn't nice. Arrrgh!!!!

I was at Alta/Snowbird last week, it was unbelievable.  4-8 inches every day, on top of 7 feet from the weekend before.

Monday was a feeding frenzy, but it was a great week of skiing.  We got first Tracks in Greeley Bowl and ended up waist deep in The Cirque.  We got to experience The Mineral Basin with fresh powder on the most incredible blue bird day!

Yes... Utah is back baby!

Mr Crab, I can tell just by the way that kid was standing that she is a great skier!  Just like her dad I suppose.

Thanks. Some of the kids around here, Romark Ski Academy, Winter School, PC Ski Team, are really awesome for being four feet tall. Lindsey Vonn was a local girl until, inexplicably, she now lists her address as Vail...anyway, my girl has developed a taste for the steep and deep, and that suits me fine.

4ster, that shot is beautiful.  What are we looking at, is it the right side (I believe so)?  It may actually help me make my mind up between Snowbird/Alta and Brighton/solitude.

The photo is the far skiers left in Middle Bowl Cirque at Snowbasin.  It is a short hike & long traverse along the ridge to get there.  It hasn't been open a lot this season.

Now, I've really complicated your decision

Slightly off subject, but if any of you know where Mt. Pleasant is (south off 15 near Nephri), and that was your destination, where would you ski along the way?
