Can't go wrong! Every resort there has it's charm.
PC, a bit smaller but nice. Deer Valley, great groomers and if I remember right, Olympic mogul hill. The Canyons, didn't like the start with the cabriolet lift but after that a nice resort.
Alta and snowbird, way steeper. Hard to compare because we had snorkel-powder there .
At Solitude we had a blue-bird day . Love solitude, has something for everybody. Nice groomers and steep terrain at honeycomb. Brighton also was nice. Bit more crowded at some points but we also found totally empty pistes. This was in April last year (end of season).
So any choice you make, it's gonna be great! And a good reason to come back for the resorts you didn't went to.
If I had to pick best I would say: Alta for expert skiers. Deer Vally/Brighton for families. Solitude for mixed groups (experts and starters).
I'm going to be skiing PC Monday morning with my 11 year old. I'll be happy ski with with whoever's in... shoot me a PM. I live up the street from The Peaks. I haven't seen the forecast, but we've had great conditions lately. It's been either sunny or snowing. It was nice today, had a little powder.
Just curious, how is the Park City Peaks hotel? We are in planning stages for Spring break ski trip. Transit to slopes, comfort, service, food - any observations would be appreciated
We liked it. That's why we come back. Nice rooms, freshly backed cookies each evening, bathrobe's, extra towels at the swimming-pool, nice in- and outdoor hot-tub, swimming-pool, sauna. The American breakfast is not so our thing. But I guess that's a cultural thing and most Americans will like it. Staff serving breakfast was very nice. The reception was not very good informed and not overly helpful. But not a big deal. Don't know about transit to the slopes as we always drove with our rental. I believe the bus stops right at the door, not sure though. Liked the indoor parking. No shoveling snow of the car or de-icing windows :-)
We enjoyed staying there and it will be our base for skiing BCC/LCC this year again.
Re snowbasin and planning IMHO, it might be best right after the little storm that may hit in tuesday/Wednesday time frame. As 4ster mentioned in another thread, Strawberry side is not too good in low visbility conditons. But awesomely great in good visibility. Also, best dynamics for storm appear to be more north.
I am catching up with Dirk on Tuesday at Solitude. Other than that, I am open to going wherever. Snowbird has received 11" in the past 48 hours. It will be skiied out, but there may still be stashes at Solitude.
We are probably doing Solitude Sunday before you arrive. I do want to ski with the gang, but I am anxious to try Snowbird and Tuesday is the first non-holiday day.
I'm on the way from my Dallas connection to SLC right now. (Had an urgent email to respone to, so bought the in-flight wi-fi. Way cool.)
We had no problems whatsoever, but we are surrounded by fellow passengers who have been through real ordeals. The woman ahead of me was supposed to fly home to SLC 2 days ago and just now made it. The man across the aisle hitched a ride from wherever he was stuck to Nashville and flew out of there.
Dallas is still covered in snow, but the runways are clear and everything is running on time.
In other good news, our bags flew free because I'm in the Magic Hat club (frequent flyer gold). That was a pleasant surprise. Especially since we discovered last night that a pair of Obsethed and a pair of Coombas will NOT fit together in an old double ski bag.
I don't think my motel has internet, so I may be going dark (or at least sporadic) after this. We may be able to check in with my son's iPhone.

Had same experience a month ago... So I was in time to order a larger bag to accommodate my Hellbent's and the Xplorer's. I needed a HUGE bag. I think I could get 5 pairs of regular ski's in it, ha ha!
MDF we'll catch up I'm sure. I'm gonna be able to ski a 1/2 day tomorrow afternoon barring any unforeseen travel holdups. Where are you gonna be tomorrow?
Dirk I may be down for a Pow Mow trip as well. Lol I want to go everywhere! I do have to to Alta. That's a must for me.
I called Canyon and the widest ski they have is a Rossi S7. 111 underfoot. I can always demo at the mountain or try The Lift House. I skied my last few days last year on Hellbents very nice skis. I'm still bringing the Volkls though we'll give them a shot first.
Gotta love it when the Sheriffs office snow pages on start coming in the day before you leave!
LCC road is closed and Alta is interlodged! Man this snow came out of nowhere but its very welcome.
Guys been following this thread and am enjoying it. Please post pics and trip reports this week! I hit UT in 2007 and was considering it again next month but settled on Telluride instead. Safe travels!
Will be skiing Brighton on Moday.
We were at Solitude on Sunday, had a great time. Have some pics and video to post when we get a real internet connection - including a clip of me doing a nice somersault fall during my first powder pitch of the year. We were in Honeycomb not too long after it opened and got a couple of short untracked pitches. Found a few scraps during the rest of the day too.
In my hotel. Since its already 1 pm I am gonna cruise up to Alta and ski for free after 3 off of Sunnyside just to get my legs under me. People are bailing left and right at the airport, the hotel, etc. Everyone is leaving. Awwwwwwwwww.....
The good news is that I fianlly got to SLC at 7pm. The bad news is how I got here. Left Maui last night for SFO. Red eye always fun. Get to SFO at 4:45am feeling wonderful as usual. Flight leaves at 8am. At 7:30, they say new time 8:15 due to fog. Then new time 8:30. Then 8:45. This continues every 20 minutes or so until 11am. Finally, weather starts to clear. I'm thinking so much for sking in afternoon, but that's ok.Naturally, they then cancel flight. Instant line forms. I stand in line, but also call United. After close to a half hour, someone gets on line. I explain that flight cancelled, and I need to get to SLC ASAP. Person responds, Oh the flight was cancelled. I say, I know the flight was cancelled. that's why I'm calling to see what I can do to get to SLC. He says, all of the other flights are full. However, he can get me to SLC at 5pm on tuesday. However, they could have fog tomorrow in which case it could be Wednesday. Lovely. I finally give up on telephone and d3ecide to see if I can get somewhere with person I'm in line for. he says I've already been rebooked to arrive at 5pm next day. and it will be great fun to spend all day Tuesday in SFO and LAX. I say how about Denver. He says he can do that and get me to SLC at 1:30 next day. Sliightly better at least. But he says I can go standby on flights that are currently full out of Den. But I'm confirmed at leat on 11:30am flight next day. I take it. Arrive in Denver with half hour to get on next flight. Land at gate 30. SLC flight is at gate 92. Typical. After 2 tries, finally talk to someone good. Oh, it appears that guy in SFO didn't actually book me on anything from Den to SLC. Wreaks havoc with UA computer system. All the while, they've begun to board. Sounds like there's space, but the glitch in UA computer seems insurmountable. In nick of time, she does it, and I actually get on plane. I felt like I was on Amazing Race and I'm winning. No one that was on original SLC bound plane from SFO is on this palne. Which is good si nce my son and I got last 2 seats.
Fun day. However, a mexican meal and margharita has improved situation. ski with MDF at Snbowbird tomorrow. Will check with everybody for days latrer in week. Like Conz said, for a period of time that was supposed to have no snow, we're not doing badly. Aloha Steve
I hope those weather forecasts are true! I just booked my (first) trip to Utah for 20th-24th. A good dump would take it from awesome to mind blowing I'm sure. Haven't figured out where on what days yet, probably staying in Midvale, and doing Solitude on Sunday but from there who knows (Probably Alta, something in PC, then a half day God knows where)
We haven't had that huge dump in a month or so. But what we have been getting is a numerous small storms droping maybe 12-24" per week for the last 3 weeks and the holiday weekend at my home ski area of Beaver Mt was in great shape and the conditions were pretty much optimum for the resort skiing experience that most people want and you guys may luck out and hit a big dump one day as well.
Steve glad you made it. Snowbird was getting whacked as well. Alta says they got 6 inches but I tell you what t hey had six inches while I was there I am sure they got more. Get a good breakfast put it behind you and have fun over there! We will see you tomorow or next day.
BTW I also got cancelled Sunday at 5pm by Delta for my Monday 2/15 5:30 am flight. Nary a call or text I just happened to do electronic check in and found out. They had automatically rebooked me for same flights next day, Tuesday, 2/16. Ah, I don't think so.
Waited on phone for over an hour on hold. Checked my intenriary a few times on their website while on hold, and the last time I checked they had rebooked me AGAIN to get into SLC at 11 am Monday instead of 10 am Monday. That'll do. I got much luckier than you. Guess their computer was doing the E Street shuffle as well but turned out ok for me.
