My wife and I are planning a trip out to Breckenridge in the beginning or middle of March. We are both 24 years old and neither of us has ever been skiing. We've been told that it's definitely worth going to Colorado instead of taking the 4 hour drive to Vermont (we're in NY), and all my research (on this board and other places) shows that Breckenridge should be a great choice for beginners.
We're looking at lodging and I'm completely overwhelmed by the options. I think, as beginners, we want to stay slopeside so we have easy access to lessons/lifts/etc.. Some of that slopeside lodging is far too expensive though.
Has anybody stayed at Der Steiermark? It looks reasonably priced and has a great location. I only found one review of it on this board. Do you have any other suggestions for slope side, reasonably priced, good for novices?
(By the way, the plan is to fly in on a Thursday, spend Friday/Sat/Sun on the slopes with at least a day and a half of lessons, and then fly home Monday).
Thanks so much for your answers. Reading past threads on this board has been very helpful in our planning.
Edit: We're also looking at the Great Divide Lodge but there's really mixed reviews.
