Best bet in the Northeast for presidents weekend (2/12-2/15) - Page 2

Jay got some snow this past week. They're claiming over 2 feet. I haven't been following the weather very close so I don't know how windy it's been. Most of the snow is probably in the woods. The new lodge and bar are nice but on  busy weekend afternoons (Saturdays) it can be really busy. The last two times I was there we got a beer in the IR. The new bar was packed.......just like the old one was. Good for them, bad for me. As said, the mountain is still pretty much the same with the exception of the Green Mountain Freezer HSQ and the clearing out of some more glades. I haven't been to Smuggs in years but I would guess it's still the same. If you hit it in good conditons I wouldn't let the slow doubles scare me away.

Isn't that supposed to be a selling point?

Yep, as long as you can ski trees it should be pretty good.

If you can't......

I expect they will be pretty busy since they are advertising their recent snowfall pretty aggresively. ....and why shouldn't they? If you got the goods, flaunt it.

For OP: consider Mt Snow, a little closer than most of the other good groomer hills in VT and NH.  May sound crazy, but some of the best snow conditions in the East this weekend will be in south central and southwest PA:  I like Blue Knob for challenge and small crowds, but Roundtop might be a good choice for you and wife.  Seven Springs would be great too, but probably very crowded. Has Elk up north of Scranton received some of this recent mid-Atlantic snow?  That's a good, quiet place not too far from you.

I went up to northern NH like I planned. Skied Wildcat, Cannon & Balsams. Skiing at Cannon & Wildcat was a little scratchy but good enough. Balsams Wilderness was in excellent condition with nicely groomed runs & very little hard snow. I didn't get to enjoy the scenery of the White Mtns. because they were in the clouds all weekend but it's still a beautiful corner of the world even without good visibility. We picked up a little bit of snow each night but not enough to talk about. Wildcat & Cannon had good crowds but no liftlines to speak of. Balsams was almost like having my own private mtn.
