Letter to K2 & Their Response

So last April I bought a new pair of skis.  In 1996 I bought a pair of K2 Fours and loved them.  They were very special to me in that I had moved out west and really progressed more on those skis than any other I have ever owned.  I think I put 200 days on them before my ski tuner had intervention with me.

Since that pair, I have had a few pair

A Pair of Elan SCXs that I skis a couple times
Volant Power Carves (bent two pair of these (I am only 165lbs)
Volkl P50 (too much ski)
Line Prophet 75 (yes there is such a thing) (worst constructed skis I have ever seen)

So I finally decided to go back to K2 and bought a pair of Apache Outlaws. I was excited to be back on K2s and was very hopeful for a pair of skis I felt comfortable on again.  I have put 20 days on them since I wrote this letter to K2:

Before you ask:
- Yes my Fantasy Football Team is really named "All K2 Fours Go To Heaven"
- Yes that actually is a real picture of me pouring champagne on myself while holding my retired skis

Well after about a month or so went by they sent me a hand written letter back.  I scanned it in and you can read it here:

They also sent me a nice T-shirt (which I gave my best buddy since it was an XL (he is on K2 Public Enemies right now so it is cool), a K2 Money clip, a K2 Pen and a mess of stickers.

Thought everyone here would enjoy reading it.  Sorry it took me so long to post this.

Seems like people don't like the PDFs since lots of people have seen the thread and not too many have commented so here they are as JPGs

What a COOL response...and handwritten no less!  I guess it pays to let people know you like their products!

Pretty neat.  You have great creativity and obviously it was appreciated at K2.

That's awesome, I love my K2's as well (Apache Crossfire's) and also like free T-shirts, what is the address you used to mail them?

Are you sure you weren't applying for a job in their marketing department? ;)

tylrwnzl I used the address listed on their site for "sticker request" that was listed under contact us.

hrstrat57 Nice.  You will have to tell me how it goes.  I loved the flex pattern of those skis.  They were just perfect for my height and weight and somehow pushed back at me just the right amount so I was ready for the next turn.  They were quick and fun in the moguls for sure.

vail snopro Very funny.  They do have some quirky marketing, but I am sure I am far too old to fit in around there.

Nothing dinosaur about K2 Fours.....I have a pair of 188 and a pair of 178....the length makes them very diff skis but outstanding even in the short, playful lengths.

The little red lights still blink too!

The 188's have Look Turntables on them and the 178's have Solly 900 Equipe bindings so both are still ready to go......

Last time I ski'd em(think it was the 178's) they were the talk of the lift line.....

IMHO, as said above....flat out gorgeous skis. I have no plans to get rid of either pair.

I used to have a pair of 183 Merlin VI's....those were awesome too!

How did I miss the original post.
This is pretty damn cool!

K2 has been a sponsor of ESA for several years with some great results for the winners of the skis.  Kudos to you for letting them know you're a satisfied customer and kudos for them for coming through!

Thanks, sent them an email hoping I'll get me a sticker

Those things were hella stiff skis.  They were speed whores.  When I tried them they would say in a little naughty voice "give me MORE".  They frightened me.

I remember the first pair of K2 Fours I saw. It was a VARA race in 1996/97 range at Middlebury. I kind of chuckled like "what the hell are those things, there's no way anyone can ski a fast GS on those".

Out of the top 10 skiers that day at least 8 were on Fours.

Later that year and into the next year, Bode Miller rode them into superstardom on the World Cup.

Truly a revolutionary ski.

Ha ha ha.  Very funny.  The letter came back from Vashon Island, WA.  I will say that previous and up until the K2 Fours, I had been buying "wood core, American skis" of which K2 was an obvious choice.  Moving their operation to China did factor in to my decision to buy the Volants (Which I bent two pair of under my massive 160lbs).

I have no problem with China at all.  In fact some of the best capitalists that I know are from China and I do wonderful business with them.  My (Chinese) k2 Apache Outlaws are SO much better made than the Line skis (that were made in the USA at the time) or the Volants (made in Colorado at the time).  If they make a great product and stand behind it, make them on the moon for all I care.

If I remember correctly, you have to send them a self addressed, stamped envelope.

Mondak

Kinda funny to see your post on K2 Fours today.  Just yesterday, I was at my local Play it Again Sports store and my 10 yr old son spotted a pair of K2 Fours tossed outside by the dumpster.  He asked if he could have them as decoration to hang on his bedroom wall.  They're actually in really good shape, bases, edges and topsheats all look barely used. I haven't drilled any holes in them yet or nailed them to his wall yet - I hear they were the number 1 selling ski in their day.  I currently ski K2 Apache Outlaws - not a bad choice at all!

Super cool!  I have not had the heart to hang them on the wall yet, but I know deep down that is where they are eventually headed.

Glad your kid rescued them.  Hopefully they will bring some good luck.
