Would appreciate some advice on a ski to deal with Eastern ice conditions.
49 year old intermediate, about Level 7 (Ski on blue and easier black slopes) from the description on this site. Heavy at 5' 6" and 215 pds. I ski local Ontario hills with some trips to either Jay Peak, Mount Tremblant or Lake Placid/Whiteface. I stick to the groomers, and at Jay Peak enjoy black runs like JFK, Haynes and Derick Hot Shot. Don't enjoy it when runs are covered in ice or you have the bumps separated by a sheet of ice in between, and that happens pretty often.
My current K2 Escape Cruisers (private label 3500s I believe) don't grip to well, and I am looking at an upgrade while sticking with about a 156 cm ski. I found some really good prices on Atomic Nomad Highnoon (157cm), Head Xenon 9.0 (156cm), as well as a barely used pair of 2005 Atomic Metron 9 plus (150 cm). I am also considering a bit more $$ for the Atomic Drive 7 or 9s. Handling high speed is not a priority, I don't try to keep up with my teenagers.
Any feedback on which of these would be good at handling ice for my situation.
Had some medical issues an my weight ballooned very high, and have taken 50 pds off this last year after having to skip skiing last season. If I drop a lot more weight, I'm more than willing to swap out for another pair then. Right now I want some good equipment to keep skiing enjoyable.
