What's the use of ski poles? - Page 2

it is much easier too learn tricks without poles but they only count if you nail it with them!!!!

Let him ski without poles. As has been said they are not as needed as they once were. They are a crutch for bad skiers and good skiers. With modern skies turn initiation does not require poles and hasn't for many many years. Most of you that say you need them for bumps need to ski bumps without them for awhile just to feel how much you do wrong with your poles.

I still ski with poles but some of my students, older freestyle teens, will not or will just bring along ultra short poles, so I have worked on not always having my poles and honestly my skiing has benefited from it.

Hey, @OldEasternSkier, now that four years have passed, what does your son say about poles? Has he resumed using them?
