Magic Mountain is in prime condition

I've done a little skiing in Vermont over the past 10 days and wanted to let folks know that Magic Mountain is in fantastic shape.  If you have never been to Magic, now is the time to go to ski some of the best terrain in VT.  (Note that Magic is closed Tuesdays-Thursdays, except on powder days of at least 6 inches.)

I skied Magic the past two Saturdays, Sugarbush last Tuesday and Killington last Wednesday.  Magic has much better coverage than Sugarbush right now, no crowds and adult lift tickets are only $56.  If you have been to Sugarbush and enjoy skiing the Castle Rock runs, you will love Magic.

Redline and Blackline are skiing great - you can go top to bottom without hitting any rocks.  Magic's many gladed runs are loaded with snow, and if you have little kids, there is plenty of groomed terrain for them.

Here is some video from my two days at Magic:

Great to ski with you again, had a blast on Saturday and skied some great lines for sure!

You coming out again this weekend?

The family and I plan on being there Saturday and Sunday to repeat our MLK weekend trip from last year.  Looks like it will be good.

It should be good this weekend.

Liv4ski, I love that song.

The coverage at Magic is just fantastic now, runs that were sketchy all last year are filled to the brim with great edgeable hero snow top to bottom.  I'm so happy I am there everyweeked now, it's just such a fun place to explore!

Here's a quick pic of me doing a fun drop at Magic on the east side.

This was a picture of me on Goniff Glade about a week ago.  Note the huge grin and tips barely poking out of the snow.

Look forward to seeing and skiing with anyone who makes the trip out.  Thanks for thinking Magic, we apprecite it!

It was great skiing with you as well.  I am hoping to come either Saturday or Sunday sans tots to ski with you and your band of merry maggoticians.

SKI-3PO, PM me your cell phone # so we can hook up for some runs.  According to my trip report, the last MLK at Magic was awesome.  Now I know why I made these trip reports.    www.epicski.com/forum/thread/79267/magic-mountain-vt-1-19-09-pics-and-videos#post_1042908

Looking forward to skiing with you.  I have my fingers crossed that you will find conditions in Utah this weekend as good as Magic's.

Great report Live4ski.  I am planning on getting to Magic this weekend hopefully Saturday with my kids who are now the same or better at skiing than me.  They love to ski trees.  Could anyone tell me where the good tree runs are--what trails they are off of at least.

Hi Taw.  My kids love the trees at Magic.  There are tree runs all over the mountain, both marked and unmarked.  The best place to start is The Hollows.  Enter where the black diamond appears on the map above the word "The" off of Heart of Magician.  You can also enter lower down off of Talisman.

I plan to go to Magic on Sunday.  Let me know if you go Sunday, and I will look for you.  If you hook up with Do Work, he'll show you other places to go.  Do Work, Taw skis MRG and is an awesome skier.

Hello all!  To anyone that wants to plan ahead to hook up on the hill, please PM me your phone number and I'll make plans to meet up with you all and show you around.  Taw, pretty much any tree area will be skable, as thereare no boundaries at Magic.  If you can see it, you can ski it without fear of getting your pass pulled, which is refreshing for eastern tree skiers.  There's not alot of new snow, but hopefully the few inches they get this week will deposit themselves in the trees to make everything that much more sexy.

If it's trees you seek, I have a few lines you will love!

I've been getting quite a few PMs regarding some Magic tours so I'll just say if anyone wants to get shown around, I'll be meeting people at the base of the red chair at about 9.  I'll be in a red jacket, black pants, orange lange boots and I'll have tons of stickers on my blue and white skis and my grey helmet.

I'll probably be hanging with my wife and daughter in the morning, but hopefully I'll still get a chance to say hello.
PM sent.  I will be there unless my buddies want to skin up Greylock.  I'll be wearing a blue Northface shell, black helmet and very old, very yellow Lange boots.

If you don't have to work Monday, you may want to consider skiing Magic on Monday.  The latest forecast from Accuweather for Sunday night for Magic:

Low: 19 °F RealFeel®: 9 °F
4-8 inches of heavy snow in the evening; cloudy with a couple of flurries late

If this pans out, Magic will be stellar on Monday.  Note that the weather models are not in agreement at this point.  Some have the storm going out to sea, so there may be no snow.

The National Weather Service's latest snow forecast is now calling for at least 4 inches in Southern VT on Sunday night. I now plan to ski Magic on Monday.

Well I drove up to Magic Sunday morning.  Got there early to beat the crowds but there were no crowds to be beaten.  I had most of the runs to myself, and even with only 1 slow old double there was no line longer than about 8 - 10 people and that was the max.

I skied hard. Hit Slide of Hans, Witch, Broomstick, Magician, a groomer, Talisman.. took a lunch break then came out and skied Gonoff Glade twice. (Best snow on the hill!)  By this time my lack of sleep (only about 2 hours the night before) had caught up with me.  I took Talisman for one last run and whilst I was resting a very smooth skier in blue snaked his way past me.  Something about that style...is that....Kevin?  So I catch up and am greeted with a "Hey Crank!"  So we skied the rest of that run together.  Unfortunately, I was beyond cooked.  I sat in the lodge for a while, drank some water, felt like I was going to lose my lunch, made my way to my vehicle, rolled out some sleeping bags in the back and napped away the afternoon before driving home through the snow, the sleet and the rain.

Kevin it was great to see you.  I wish we had run into each other earlier or that I was feeling better...we will ski together again.

Magic was magic.  I haven't skied there in 38 years.  I was 15 - do the math.  I am not waiting another 38 years and will likely head there again before this season is done.  will try to download some pics from my camera this evening.

Me lining up a nice little drop on Redline.

Landing it and punching the next pow turn in the face.

A little air off a bump in Goniff while I was cookin'.

Great weekend- Monday was the best day of skiing for me since I was in Colorado two years ago. Seriously.  I was getting face shots for the better part of the moning and enjoyed woods run after woods run of just the sexiest pow blanket ever.  Damn, I just don't get it- Magic keeps getting better and better...  Just when I think I can't possbly have more fun, somehow we find a way!

Great skiing with you again Do Work.  Magic just keeps getting better and better.  Sunday was fun from what little I can remember of it.  Most of the memory was erased by Monday's 8 inches of fresh pow, although I can still taste Jake's apple crisp - the best one I ever had.

Monday's quote of the day:  "Epicguy is stealing our powder!"   I think the mags will be a little more cautious when leading Paul Jones to their pow stashes.

Heh..  I loved it when Paul got down to upper blackline and began blabbering several swear words while grinning from ear to ear, trying to tell me something about awesomeunbelievableohmygodwoohoo through facefuls of blower pow...  So glad he enjoyed himelf out there!

The mags are always happy to ski with rippin' dudes, especially ones that enjoy themselves so fully on the terrain.    They might be a little more cautious about being IN FRONT of him, but he's always welcome to the powpow!

Good description

Never expected a day like that.  I had a blast and the Mags were kind  It was a rippin day with lots of cliff drops, nasty lines and deep pow - along with a double ejection with a quick roll!  Actually lost my ski in thigh deep.

DoWork is skiing so fine and Dave even felt the pounding at the end of the day.  That is a first.  Dave put together his best skiing of the season.  I guess it's mandatory in terrain like that.

so Paul did you ski with dalton aka the most nimble clysedale ever to grace magic or any mountain?

also dowork is the cashier single and can she ski? and does that really matter?
I guess Monday was the day to go.  I missed out but Saturday was still fun!

Crank, good seeing you as well.  Although I'm not sure that being recognized by my "style" is a good thing or a bad thing.

It was a great weekend at Magic.  I wish I would have planned better to ski with others more, but I did get a run and a half with KevinF on Sunday.  It was difficult to find him among the crowds getting ready in the lodge each morning.  ;)  With any luck maybe I can get back there again this season.
