Jackson Hole * Jan. 29 - Feb. 3

The annual trip has grown markedly smaller this year....  One of my buddies got selected to be a course worker at the Olympics.  He has a condo in Whistler for almost a month and a lot of my friends are going there now.  Can't hardly blame 'em!

Anyway, my wife and I are arriving late on Friday the 29th and staying at the Anvil for a night.  We'll ski Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.  Other than the first night, we'll be staying at "The Inn at Jackson Hole" right by the Cascade.

The good thing is, with just the two of us, it will be much easier to meet up for some turns.  It's been difficult in the past with a ton of people.

ATTN:  Bob, Stephen, etc...   !  Unfortunately my buddy JD bailed for Whistler as well.  He was a great guide last season.

Anyone else gonna be around?

At Jackson???

I'll be around and wouldn't mind going to the Ghee to ski with Harkin and crew one day.

I'll be around other than working on Feb 1.

Only thing is...

Unless we get a bunch of snow twixt now and then, I won't be accompanying you out of bounds.  There's fair snow up high outside the gates but getting out down below is a nightmare (or so I'm told).

They just closed the Hobacks and half of the Lower Faces this morning.  Perhaps the patrol agreed with my assessment from yesterday that it's actually kind of dangerous sashaying through the willows and the laurel and the aspen saplings and the rock gardens on the lower third of the lower faces.

Anyway, I'll be around.  I've been having a BLAST skiing groomers and early in the mornings and "selected" bump lines later on.  There's some very good skiing here if you adjust your expectations.

+1 on that!  I haven't skied a Hoback or Lower Face and won't on my own volition.  There is some really good skiing to be found on the mountain right now, although some new snow and wind would be really nice right now.  BTW today I did do my first Pepis' of the year on the teles' and had a blast!

You guys aren't really raising my excitement level....

It's not that bad.  I would have been excited to ski conditions like this in VT when I was a PA boy.  It could even snow before you arrive.

17 inches today, huh?  Woo hoo!!!  A few big dumps can turn marginal conditions into "very good" in short order.

Leaving this Friday.....  Can't wait.

After reading the TR from Finndog, philpug and the gang, I'm guessing UP is in for some epic conditions!

color me green with envy!
