Pants

I know there have been a lot of threads on this topic (I've searched them all).  However, since I was steered so well on my previous jacket post, I figured what the hell!

Returned from my recent trip which reintroduced me to the fine sport of skiing in over 10 years.

Everything was great equipmentwise, with the exception of my cheaper Columbia pants which had no breathability and created the usual steam room issues.

I was wondering if I could get some good recommendations for pants around the 2 bill mark.  It seems that takes a lot of the usual suspects out of the running (Arcteryx, etc).

I'm 6'0" 185, 33in waist 32 inseam, so no typical fit issues.  My best guess is size M for the most part.

The one caveat is I would prefer a reddish color, as I got complaints from my fellow skiers that I was hard to spot on the mountain with my mostly grey/black setup.  Not a requirement, but a preference for sure.

Looking in my price range, I seem limited to non-gore fabrics with the exception of some Marker (Gamma) pants.  Seem to be finding DNA (Munchie, Louie Louie....what's the difference?), TNF (Rockefeller, Freedom), etc.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

I picked up a pair of REI's eVents for a $120 on closeout.  Fantastic pants.  Anyone who tells you they don't block wind as well GoreTex is nuts.  It was zero degrees (F) with 30 mph winds and all I had underneath was 200 weight fleece.

I am a big fan of anything goretex or eVent; you can't go wrong.  Worth every penny if you ski no matter what the conditions.  Just look for the deals.  They are around.  I bought a  pair of Millet pants made of goretex pro from sierratrading  for my wife.  Beautiful pants, work awesome and it cost around $160 after coupons.  Full side zip, pockets, etc.  Rippin deal.

peterk123 has some good advice but if you can wait, in a few months everything will be on sale.

Good advice, but I would like to get an idea what to look out for since my size seems to always be the first to go.

I just got these this year (The jesse james ones). I like them, almost to warm for me though but they have vents to open.

edit: oops they might be more than 2 bills

Didn't I read on another thread that wearing powderhorn gear makes you a "gaper"??

Those actually look pretty cool.  As does the Beyond stuff I read about on another thread.

Anyone have any experience with the Marker Gamma pants?  They're gore and look to be pretty nice for the price.

I recall reading that somewhere.  All the talk of gapers makes me laugh.

My best guess is the fact powderhorn has some unique styles to their skiwear and are fairly pricey lead many to them for the wrong reasons.

For what it's worth, I actually like those pants (from seeing them online) and having spent a lot of time in JH, WY, I would personally love to support that company!
