Happy New Year!!!
Uncle Louie Wins the EPIC Skis!
Capturing 43% of the vote in a competitive campaign, Uncle Louie won the first-ever pair of EPIC skis with a platform that gives this contest a whole new set of ski legs: "It is my hope these can be ready in time for The Gathering in Utah. If so, any Bear who wishes to ski on them can do so by giving me a little advance notice. Once you put in at least 1000 vertical feet on them (not hard to do at all) YOU can autograph the ski." Jacques came in second with 26% of the vote and crgildart came in third with 13% of the vote. As consolation prizes they received Weems Westfeldt's Brilliant Skiing, Every Day dvd or an autographed copy of Ron LeMaster's Ultimate Skiing book. Honorable mention goes to finalists Liv4Ski, Lars, and BushwackerinPA for being in the running. Thanks to all 24 contestants and 132 voters for playing!
Next Up: iPhone "App a Day" Contest!
Join the fun and test your powers of recognition to win a very cool app by a fellow Bear! Skier219 has developed a new iPhone app that serves as a compass, GPS, map, zoom camera, and two-axis inclinometer which is available for 99 cent download at the iTunes Store. Trekchick says, "I played with this app a little at Stowe, mostly the zoom for the camera. This is a great piece of work!"
For ten days, starting January 5, we'll be awarding an app a day <link to contest home page> to the first person who correctly posts the location of the background photo in that day's contest (see above example). All background photos are of mountain resorts that hardcore EpicSkiers would recognize.

Salt Lake City, January 31-February 4, 2010
All are welcome at the Epicski Gathering! Come ski Solitude, Snowbird, Alta, and Snowbasin with fellow Bears! While most that attend are upper level skiers, we always have at least one group of intermediate skiers. We usually find a local Bear or two to guide us to the goods, there will be a few ski instructors in the mix to help out, and we all regroup at lunch and apres-ski for socializing sans helmets. Group dinners are the rule, but not required. Gatherings are come one, come all, and come only to whatever activities interest you! At last year's Gathering at Jackson Hole truly "a great time was had by all."
ESA Stoke Report
To say that the reviews from the Stowe ESA, December 11-13, 2009, have been enthusiastic might be an understatement. Do Work's account of his experience seems to have been typical: "I just want to say that Bob Barnes is the MAN! I can't even express the progress I made this weekend as a result of his teaching and skiing. You can't help but have a blast skiing with the guy! Thanks again Bob!" Aleph Null: "Dan Egan's amazing to ski with and just watching the way he moves is mind blowing." The Aspen ESA is January 10-14, 2010 at Snowmass, CO. This is the last ESA we have planned for this season.
