Good alternative to Volkl S5 or S4

I have a pair a Supersport S5s (168), that I love. I need to get my son better skis (looking for deal on used) He tried my S5s and loved them, so I am looking for some S5s or S4s. I may find some of those on ebay for just the right price (hopefully $200 or less), but what other skis could/should I be looking at that would be similar to those models and give me a larger selection to choose from?

Thanks,
Brad

I can't PM you (you must not have enough posts), but I have a pair of 168 5 stars. Couple of years old in great condition (barely used). I'll let them go for 200 if you are interested.

Seattle Sun, it says I need to post 3 times before I can PM, so I will put it here:

That sounds good, are they the original 5 stars or the S5s? I live in Olympia, so I could pick them up from you, no need to ship. I just started looking, so I think I will look Ebay and Craigs List over for a few days before committing (also want to see if i get any more responses to this post), but if you need to get rid of them soon, let me know. If I can't find a better deal within a week or two, I'll probably take yours.

Thank you,
Brad

P.S. I have read that the 5 Stars are a little softer and a bit more forgiving than the S5s, anyone know about that?

They are the original 5 stars. I believe that they are a little more easy going than the S5 (less metal?).
 Let me know.

One day about 7 years ago I demoed the 724 Pro and the 5 Star back to back on a day of variable snow. They are similar to and the predecessors of the AC30 and the S5. You could generalize the difference between the two as GS and Slalom, in flex and sidecut (not waist width). The AC was very tolerant of variable snow conditions. The Star was not. It was solid on firm conditions, but not very versatile or fun in other conditions. For a one ski quiver for your son, you'd want to evaluate the snow he will be on, likes best, has opportunity to find.

Skis of similar sidecut and flex pattern would be similar, if you want to broaden your search to include other major companies.
