Binding Recomendation

Thread Starter
I just picked up a pair of Apache Chiefs (181) and I need to slap some bindings on them.  I'm a big guy (240) and was wondering what you guys thought about some Head Mojo 15's or the Tyrolia Peak 18 x's? Any other suggestions would be welcomed. I ski alot of varying conditions including on and off the resort.

Cheers

How skilled a skier are you?  Both of these are very good bindings and should work well for you.

Even at 240 the Peak 18's may be overkill unless you are skiing at mach 5 all of the time.

I would say I am an aggressive skier.  However mach 5 never seems to work out well in the end for me.  My feeling is if you don't at least try you will never know if you can do it.  I was thinking the same about the 18's.  Thanks for the input.

both of those are probably fine choices for what you describe.  what DIN will you run them at?

Mojo 15s and FF17s are absolute shit. I've blown up 2 pairs of mojos and a friend has trashed one mojo and one FF17. THEY ARE NOT DURABLE BINDINGS

At first I couldn't figure out why tyrolia would make a 17 and 18 which are only one din apart, but i realized it's because the 18 is a real, high quality binding while the 17 is cheap shit.

I'm pretty sure it also has a wide din range so as long as you fall within the range i see no reason not to use the 18.

Make sure you have your model years sorted out.  At least for 08/09 and now 09/10, the Peak 15/18 and Mojo 15/18X are identical except for the springs.  I switched to these bindings last year, and I think it would take a stick of dynamite to damage them.  They are heavy, but tanks.  These current models all have the Aero toe and Race Pro heel.  I believe in earlier model years, the 15-DIN models did not have that heel.

I am not up to speed on the older FF/Mojo models but I do recall that they were still using the diagonal heel as late as 07/08.  It's a decent binding, but nowhere near as stout/solid as the race heel.
